I haven't posted in a couple of weeks, things are hectic here at home, wife was hired for her new job and she is starting her career, halfway point to get her Masters, she will have it in September 2016, and I've given a months notice at work, my last day is December 31st, and I become a full time dad, we went on our first Christmas vacation ever to Celebrate and ended up splurging on my wife to get all her work clothes, she wanted to treat me to a night out but when I saw her I was very nervous, it was like when we first met, she looked beautiful, and she hadn't seen me in my new clothes yet, I started this journey in January @ 388lbs, my surgery was on June 10th and I weighed 342.2lbs, my Surgerversity was on December 10th, and on the 12th I weighed 267lbs, I used to be a size 60w, my new pants were a size 48w and my shirt was a 3x( now a 2x since it was loose) the pic where I'm holding our baby I was 367lbs and all subsequent pics were between 350-388lbs, so was it worth it ???? Hell yes, my other pic is my wife in her new clothes and me @ my current weight, I can see and feel a tremendous difference and it makes me wanna work even harder.......post-254362-14506588402337_thumb.jpg post-254362-14506588635982_thumb.jpg post-254362-14506588761757_thumb.jpg post-254362-14506588899577_thumb.jpg

Thank you,? I've also been fortunate enough to be offered the opportunity to retire on December 31st, my wife is starting her career and will have her Masters in September 2016, I'm devoting the first few years to raising my kids, and looking forward to spending most of my time with them, but I'm taking my life changes a step further also, I can now devote 2-3 hours at the gym, and I'm still teaching myself about food and nutrition, I may take a part time job after me and my wife settle into our new roles, but I need to be very supportive since she is a very high achiever, I also want to see about becoming an advocate for people who want this change, I was always very lax and now that I have found my momentum I need to keep it going....... I take this so serious that I'm getting this tattooed on my back this coming year, it's from "Rumi" and it has a very emotional meaning for me....post-254362-14507124144154_thumb.jpg

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
