Ginger1217 5 Posted December 20, 2015 I had my sleeve this past Thursday December 17. I'm thinking about going back to work tomorrow December 21. I work in an office so it's not a physical job. What's the soonest some of you all went back to work? PS. I still feel a little weak but my husband will drive me.
Sophie74656 1,572 Posted December 20, 2015 I wouldn't push it. For me I was very weak and my back hurt from sitting in one position for too long
_Kate_ 2,224 Posted December 20, 2015 Congrats on the surgery! I was off work for four weeks and should have really stayed off six. I do have a stressful job which involves being in and out of the car a few times a day but I didn't really think I would be so exhausted even in week four. I have a feeling if I had had a desk job I would have been as tired. Be careful with yourself, it's very early days. When I have my Tummy Tuck etc I am having six weeks off!! Protege01 16 Posted December 20, 2015 I took 3 weeks off and I'm glad I did. After hearing about the recovery time for some people, I figured I would only need a week or 2. But after 2 weeks I still tired easily and had difficulty getting in and out of a car. Take as much time as you need and don't rush it.
Bayougrl 23 Posted December 20, 2015 I am 4 days post op and I could go back now if I was taking it easy at work. Listen to your body and use caution. Good luck.
McButterpants 2,846 Posted December 20, 2015 The first week after surgery, I got very tired. I telecommute full time and I worked 1/2 days the week after surgery - I rested when I needed to and I walked, walked and walked some more. It's important you take care of yourself during the recovery - you just had major surgery. Don't push it.
aaonthego 24 Posted December 20, 2015 I probably could have gone back to work if needed at 5 to 7 days post-op. But I'm taking 3 weeks off. There were times during the first week where I could only be comfortable reclining. Not sure what your office setup is like, but if you're feeling well and have access to a reclining chair or bed like in a health center/clinic in case you need it, then go for it. mokt 58 Posted December 22, 2015 I work in an office as well and took 3 weeks off and wish I had taken 4 weeks off. So, I guess my message to you is to take as much time off as you can/need and focus on recovering. I found the drive challenging and sitting at a desk and just moving around the office exhausting especially in the afternoon. Congrats! Take care of yourself and try not to rush back into things! failmenot 16 Posted December 22, 2015 I went back at 5 days post op - I have an office job as well and only worked half days for the first few days and I did just fine. Good luck!
Ginger1217 5 Posted December 22, 2015 Thanks. I went back for a few hours today. I got really tired. It's a lot different sitting at home vs sitting in an office. lol. I didn't drive. I just don't feel safe driving at this time even though I'm not taking pain medicine any more. Seeing all the holiday food they had there was hard.

erp 2,016 Posted December 24, 2015 I took two weeks off and was antsy to get back but the first month back was tough, I got tired very easily. Looking back, I think I could have used another week to rest.
