Reflux! Help :(

Recommended Posts

I'm four days post op. Every night I'm having wet foamy stuff coming up constantly. I've tried ranitidine and raising my head up on 2 pillows. Any other advice? It's driving me crazy and I don't want to sleep in recliner forever. :(

@@Bayougrl - Is this an over the counter or prescription? What dosage are you taking? What time of the day?

I would suggest taking 40 mgs in the evenings at least 2 - 3 hours before bed. Avoid any acidic foods; caffeine, citrus, Tomato based. Try to have your last meal/protein shake at least 4 hours before bedtime. It can take 5 -7 days of taking it consistently before you feel the effects of a PPI. If you don't feel any relief by day 10, I would call the doctor and get a prescription strength PPI instead.

Try switching to

Omeprazole

Its generic purple pill. 20mg a day for 7 days. Rantanidine wasnt strong enough for me. I told my Dr about my awful reflux after surgery and he put me on 40mg prescription omeprazole (prilosec) daily, been taking it daily for several months now. Good luck

It's over the counter. I think I will try the prilosec instead. I will also try to stop sipping earlier as well. Thx!

I had this too. I researched something called "foamies" or slimies. I knoe, sounds weird. I had to slow down my drinking and kept it very basic with what I was drinking. It dissipated on its own, but there's tons out there in the boards regarding it and even a YouTube video.

I hope it stops soon - it's no fun!

I agree with @@BelleCurves, that sounds like it might be foamies rather than reflux. Often times foamies are caused by eating/drinking too quickly or too much, but sometimes it is just because the vagus nerve is irritated by surgery. Another possibility is that they are being caused by a Vitamin or mineral supplement, particularly if you are taking something right before bed. One of the few times I got the foamies was just taking a mineral supplement that my sleeve did not like.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
