Did anyone have the period during surgery? I just got mine the day before surgery which means it will be full blown day-of. Will that be a problem?

I think this question comes up at least once a month (just like a period!) :D

It's fine. You can't wear a tampon, so let the nurse know the day of surgery that is getting you prepped and they'll give you a pad to wear for during surgery (they'll have you do a urine test for pregnancy anyway, so just tell them before that and you can take care of all of it then). They've seen it all before and there is absolutely no reason to worry or get embarrassed.

Your procedure is usually less than an hour. The best way to handle it with the least amount of involvement of others is to use a tampon. Put a new one in when you arrive at the hospital, tuck the string inside, and replace it later in the day when you're conscious enough to do so. In the event they use a catheter, which they generally don't, the tucked in string prevents anyone from even noticing. Honestly, even if they do, they aren't going to mess with it for a short surgery. The other commenter is right that no one will care and it is a very common thing, however as someone who has worked in the medical field and had surgeries, it is just so much easier and less of a pain in the butt to pop the tampon in yourself, not mention it, and then replace it later. Really, no one cares, it isn't going to impact your procedure in the slightest, and this way, you don't have to worry about the potential mess.

Yep! I just had surgery on the 16th and wouldn't you know, my monthly visitor showed up the day before. It was no problem. I wore a tampon to the hospital and they had me change it to a pad right before they wheeled me to surgery. Surgery actually made my period pretty much stop. I heard that's common for trauma. I kept a pad between my legs and they put an absorbent pad under me, but it really wasn't bad at all. I was just sure to tell each of the nurses so they wouldn't have any surprises.

Got it right before surgery, surgery was delayed a week, then got it 5 days post up and then got it 3 weeks later. Surgery/weight loss does crazy things to your body. Lol totally common. Just let your nurse no pre op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
