Liquid Diet Starts Tomorrow

Recommended Posts

It feels like it's official. I'm getting gastric bypass after a year of waiting and jumping over hurdles. I had my food funeral yesterday (Yes, I know it isn't exactly a wise thing to do, but hey, it happened) and I feel at peace with the idea of leaving it all behind. I get to start over new with a tool that will help me gain the ability to run, to have children, to live...to live. :) I feel so overwhelmingly emotional at the thought of it all because I have been a big girl my whole life. I feel like it drives me harder in some ways. Im not sure...I feel like crying happy tears.

Are you advised to stop taking Vitamins? If so at what point?

Today is the first day of your new relationship with food!

I'm on day 4 and have been very low in energy and quite "Teary." I've lost all taste for sweets so just ordered more powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup. I expected the low energy but not the other stuff.

Thepoint of that being, expect the unexpected. Try to be gentle with yourself. The purpose of the pre-op diet is to mm ale the surgery safer, but it has the added benefit of helping you start identifying those things that have driven you to eat in the past, as well.

I hope your pre-op diet goes well!

You all can do this! It was extremely hard for me but I did it. It wasn't that I was very hungry but I missed food. If I can do it you can do it!!! I was two weeks on liquid diet, no Soups of any kind.

@oxbermaid - sorry for the late reply! I'm not very good at figuring out this forum thing so I just saw your posts!

The unjury chicken Soup was a lifesaver during the pre op diet. Post op tho it's pretty unappealing, tho not a nauseating as the sweet shakes.

By now YOU must be post op too! How are things going for you?

I had my gastric bypass over ten years ago now. From stress related situations I have gained back 60 pounds of what I lost . My Dr is no longer in practice and I can not seem to get this back off. I wanted desperately to go back in and now I'm feeling without words.

I am trying to do a reset ... My downfall is I have fallen off track in the past 3 years of having allowed stress of having a sick grand baby and grabbing food from hospital on the run. Sadly enough I'm one of those that eats when stressed unlike many who do the opposite and not eat. I would rather stay away from pills of any sort. I will get myself back on track , was disappointed to find my Dr is no longer involved in beriatric . I have done research and found another since my post , I was very lucky to get in early February. To everyone out there just let it be known I'm not the only one in the boat of gaining weight back , be aware of your portions . If you have 5 pounds sneak up on you nip it in the behind asap! Thank you for your reply , I am almost 13 years out and I will beat this ! These apps help for positive and encouraging people!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
