Hello all! Just a quick question.. How soon after post op was it good for you all to try some beef Jerky? Phase 3/4 or later? Been craving the taste but can wait it doesn't say anything about it in my packet..

I had a very hard time with it early out. Too stringy and tough for my stomach. I had to do turkey Jerky which was more tender. Also the teriyaki style seems to be less tough and stringy (I think the marinade tenderizes the meat more?) though it can have a bit more sugar.

Take it easy, chew well and try a little when you are allowed to. I was allowed at the final stage, when everything was allowed and not before. Even two years out I have to be careful and can only do the more tenderized versions, though I eat those several times a week!

I started eating it about 6 months out. It is dry and tough compared to foods you're eating for the first few phases, and you should definitely wait until you're cleared for all foods before even attempting it.

I tried it when I was cleared for all food. I fully expected Runt to take me to task immediately. Nope, I swear she purred. Weirdest sensation. It was like a relaxing sigh.

I have ate beef Jerky since I was about 3 months, great for trips and when we go camping as a snack when everyone else is having theirs. I have never had any problems. High Protein and low carb!

I thought that beef Jerky was going to be the answer to my workdays.

I could keep in in my pocket and rip off a piece an gnaw on it for my Protein.

Was convenient and went down okay so long as chewed like crazy. I was around 6 weeks at that point.

Bought ten bags from different manfs. The turkey jerky was horrid and went straight to the trash. Never touching that garbage again. Several varieties of beef jerky tasted wonderful.

The problem with it was this........high sodium content.

The high sodium screwed with my Water retention. Your mileage may very.

I was probably between 6 weeks to 2 months when I started eating it. But I bought the type that was thicker and not a tough. Was easier to digest. I also limited it to a snack and not a meal. Usually went with peppered flavor. Teriyaki was also good.

The salt intake is something to watch. That's why I asked Santa for a dehydrator so I can play around with it and lower the salt content.

"Tanka Bites" is a soft square buffalo Jerky. no problems in full foods stage(4 weeks for me). organic and much lower sodium than most.

Smoked turkey sausage (like a slim Jim all cut up) is very tolerable for me 2 1/2 weeks out. Excellent Protein source too!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
