I have called twice in the last two weeks and both times they said they would call me back and have all my insurance info and talk about setting up a consult ect and nothing!

I might suggest finding a different surgeon.

I am sorry this is the response you are getting. It might show you how aftercare with this surgeon might be.

I recently changed neurosurgeons for this exact reason.

I know :( but so far the others I have looked into had bad reviews. The one closest to me is being sued for a death.

I need one around Dallas Fort Worth area

I am sorry they haven't gotten back with you in a timely manner. There is nothing I hate more than businesses that don't return calls promptly.

Just keep in mind that this is an extremely busy time for most surgeon's, especially good ones. In addition to the holidays, they are trying to get a lot of patients to a surgery date before the end of the year. I would bet good money that they won't schedule any new consults until after the new year.

One thing I have learned about this process is that it takes being proactive, persistent, positive, and patient.

@@seaniepoohbear - There are A LOT of surgeons in the DFW area. Which dr are you seeing? I can certainly recommend my surgeon, Colleen Kennedy (and her partner Julie Kilgore who I have also seen). They are downtown Dallas near Baylor but also operate in Rockwall and Plano. There are too many good surgeons in DFW area to deal with an office you don't like. I think there is a thread on here somewhere about DFW doctors. I will see if I can find it and post the link.

There must be another dr.but I am going to tell you that you must be patient.I had to wait 6 weeks to see my surgeon because I was a first time patient transferring my records to him(revision from lapband to bypass).

At this time it is beyond busy.I doubt surgeons are even seeing new patients because there are so many people seeking to have surgery before the end of the year.I have a pre op appointment...if I miss that then they are too busy and I will not have surgery.I am scheduled for ne date...There are so many people it's maddening.

There must be another surgeon as names were given. No matter who you call now it is going to be crazy...in the meantime you should connect with your primary and all doctors you currently see and get them to write letters of recommendation for WLS.It will help with the insurance approval down the road. Also see your PCP and have him/her start to document your weight and diet attempts on a month to month basis because some insurances want a record of attempted weight loss.Get yourself ready....insurance approvals are not a piece of cake these days.

I can imagine you won't see a doctor until January 2016.In the meantime be proactive.

Agree with @@Pinkgirl1234 as far as drs being busy. They are focusing on getting people in before year end. Things may be totally different after 1/1..

Response time played a major role in my decision of which surgeon to use. I figured if their front desk staff was too disorganized or incompetent and/or the surgeon was too busy to speak with me preop, what kind of aftercare and followup communication would I be looking at?

This was one of the factors in finding the neurosurgeon that did my cervical fusion, too. I want my medical team to be falling over themselves to be helpful.

Good luck..I find most bariatric surgeons offices rather curt...busy and you have to keep on them...the doctors are so busy ...really...you have to be very diligent and persistent.

I dumped an orthopedic surgeon's office due to poor staff response. It is not worth the frustration to deal with people who don't get back to you in a timely manner.

I went to a bariatric program just over an hour away since I liked the surgeon and program.

I recommend going to a couple of informational sessions, meet a few surgeons and then make your decision. While traveling a bit to get to the one you like can be inconvenient, finding the right program for YOU is the most important.

Due to the distance I don't go to support meetings. But I am not support group kinda gal anyway. I much prefer a forum like Bariatric Pal. I can access it 24/7.

If they can't be bothered to follow through with what they told you about setting up an appointment move on to the next one. While I understand many offices are busy this time of year all they need to do is tell me "Hey we are really busy right now. It may be a few days/week before I can get back to you. Or can you call us back in 2016 as we will be a lot less busy then and will have a better idea of our schedule then." Don't tell me you will call me and then not call me.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
