amandasue 27 Posted December 19, 2015 Day 3-21 my post op diet says liquids and puréed fruit only. Why not puréed veggies, too like sweet potatoes or mashed potatoes? Why only fruit? Seems like a lot of sugar intake with yogurt milk and fruit. Think cottage cheese (more Protein and less sugar) would be a safe alternative to yogurt? Being sleeved Monday 12/21...getting nervous! Miss Mac 6,262 Posted December 19, 2015 In my puree stage, I could have both fruits and vegetables, but baby food was recommended. Anything else had to be pureed to a smooth baby food consistency anyway. It was only temporary. At week three I started soft foods. Follow your teams instructions. The stomach is so brutalized by bariatric surgery that it just cannot be asked to process anything with bits in it for a while. The could get hung up in your staples or stuck in the stoma. It is not worth the risk.

WalkOnWaking 139 Posted December 19, 2015 (edited) Due to my diabetes, I was told no fruit even pureed until later. I was given a list of soft veggies I could use and which to definitely avoid. Baby food was deemed ok, although an expensive route to take. In my surgeon's office, there are two surgeons in the practice. They do not have the same pre and post-op dietary instructions. When I was given the printed list of pre-op, post-op week 1, week 2, week 3, week 4, etc., the receptionist asked which surgeon I was seeing, and pulled out the one for mine. I jokingly asked her why would it make a difference. She said their instructions are not the same. It seems everyone has their own idea of what is right.
