Surgery Day 12/18/15

Recommended Posts

Hello my name is David! I weight roughly 340 lbs and have been pursuing bariatric surgery since June of 2015. I just came across this forum and wanted to introduce myself. I just had my sleeve procedure yesterday at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, IL. I Plan on sharing my journey here And using this forum as an educational resource. If anyone else on this forum happens to live in the area of Illinois I would love to hear your experiences with the surgery as well post-268208-14505355844727_thumb.jpg

David, congratulations on completing your surgery! I hope the procedure and recovery go well for you.

Of course your surgeon and nutritionist should guide your recovery but BariatricPal is a wonderful resource for information, tips and suggestions to make the most of your surgery and weight loss journey.

So I got bad news... Something weird showed up on the X-ray and they are making me wait I'll be on nothing but ice for 1 more day and tomorrow they repeat upper gi to make sure my stomach isn't leaking. I'm not in any pain with the pca they gave me, but one other thing I was concerned about was the inability to pass bowels or urine just yet. They had to drain my bladder with a urine catheter 3 times in the last day. Hoping that this takes a turn for the better and my recovery process and liquid diet can begin tomorrow :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
