Carbohydrate intake?

Recommended Posts

I looked through everything I have gotten before and after surgery from my nut and I don't see anything that tells me what my maximum carbs should be per day. I would call my nut and ask, but it's a weekend so I was hoping someone here would have a guideline number. Thanks!

In the beginning my nut only had me focus on Protein. If they have given you a specific diet you need to follow that. Because you can barely eat anything they are not so worried about calories or carbs.

Down the road the focus remains Protein but it's a good idea to track exactly what you are consuming in a program like my fitness pal. At that point watching calories and carbs as well as protein and fat becomes more important.

I would give your nut a call on Monday and ask for guidance.

I am now nearly 15 months out. I consume between 900 and 1100 calories a day, 70 grams of protein, and I try to keep my carb count under 100. Most days my carbs are around 60.

The lowere they are the better because carbs make me stall.

Monday to Friday I try hard and mainly succeed at keeping carbs at a max of 20g.

Weekends i am between 40-50 but no more than 50.

My nutritionist told me that if I concentrate on getting my Protein requirements from regular food instead of smoothies, the carbs will take care of themselves. At 70 grams of Protein, two servings of fresh fruit and mostly non-starchy veggies, I come in around 1,000 calories and 50-75 carbs. Also, at two years, I am drinking 100-120 ounces of Water every day.

You will find your own pace soon enough. When you can contact your own NUT, they will be able to clarify your guidelines for you. Most of our teams present us with similar concepts, but the specifics may vary from practice to practice. I wish you an easy and pleasant recovery.

I was given a Protein target. That, in conjunction with avoiding starches and added sugars, keeps my carbs fairly low naturally, especially when I was early in the program. I track my food in MyFitnessPal but don't really pay attention to the carb number. My driving numbers are my Protein and Fluid targets.

I avoid Pasta, rice, bread, potatoes and starchy vegetables like corn. In addition, I choose foods low in sugar and completely avoid anything with high fructose corn Syrup (as explicitly directed by my surgeon).

Pay attention to the carbs on specific foods by carefully reading labels. For instance when choosing a Greek yogurt I make sure the protein number has at least 2 digits and the sugar number has only 1.

I have been specifically watching Protein and tracking everything on myfitnesspal, I just started noticing the carbs and the old diet crap snuck in my head and said "um, hellooooo, we are carbs"

Like everything regarding diets and weight loss, ask here and get a million different answers. I wasn't given a carb limit or number. I was given a calorie range. Along with my Protein and fluid goals that is the only limitation my nutritionist gave me. I do not eat low carb and my NUT doesn't push it. However I do pay close attention to the source of my carbs. Plant based carbs I don't worry about. I avoid "white carbs", like those found in breads, pastas, white rice and refined sugar. I try to eat as cleanly as possible. No "diet" food . On the occasions I use butter, I use real butter. However those occasions are few and far between. I buy plain yogurt and add my own fruit. I eat whole plants and grains. I am never constipated and have been losing steadily.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
