I am 10 days post-op(VSG 12/08/15). I have been vomiting pretty much everything I've eaten for the past 4 days. I've called the surgeon's office and they said to focus on "staying hydrated". I am tolerating fluids alright, just having issues with foods. I've tried several different things, going through just about all the foods in my program binder for puréed stage. The ONLY thing my new tummy has tolerated so far(that I haven't thrown back up) is sliced cheese. I know it wasn't on my program until the 3rd stage(so technically I cheated), but after vomiting soooo much, my tummy needed something. Also, the diarrhea(sorry, TMI!). I get it, I'm hardly keeping anything solid down, but holy cow. Did anyone else have these issues? How did you handle them? Does anything help?

How are you tolerating broth? Protein drinks? Gatorade?

You shouldn't be getting anything solid down at this point (if you are on the pureed stage). Staying hydrated is key and you really do need to focus more on fluids than food. Weird, I know, but true.

I am tolerating fluids okay(Water, Vitamin Water zero, g2, etc.)...getting my 64 ounces in everyday. My plan doesn't have Protein shakes/supplements in it; the surgeon wants all protein to come from "real" foods. I was Clear Liquids only first day of surgery, puréed the second day(while still in hospital) through 2 weeks, soft/mushees 2-4 weeks, then slowly introduce solids if soft foods tolerated. I am pureeing the heck out of everything, but my new tummy seems to be pissed about everything. On the bright side, I'm down 16 pounds since day of surgery(10 days ago).

Yeah...that might be your problem. It took me forever to move to pureed and then soft foods. I was about three weeks behind schedule for every stage.

I would personally try Protein drinks and cream Soups before purees. It just makes sense. Go easy on your new stomach. It's not ready for softs/purees and mushies yet.

It's OK to just stick with fluids for now if that's all you can tolerate. Protein Shakes, Water, tea, crystal light, Vitamin water, life water, propel, broth and pureed/strained Soups with unflavored Protein Powder added. My program called for fluids for 3 weeks. Even once I was on pureed I only ate a couple tablespoons a day for another week or two. I never did vomit, but I had no problems progressing as slow as I needed to. Your surgeon's office is right....hydration is more important than food right now. And you can get all the Protein you are supposed to get even in liquid form.

I had a lot of vomiting and nausea in the beginning. My team told me that each time I vomited to go back to fluids for 24-48 hours and let everything settle down before attempting food again. I know your team said no Protein drinks but if you are struggling with food, I would think a Protein Drink at this point would be acceptable and may help you get through a few days while your system calms down a little. If no Protein Drink, maybe at least milk? Fairlife has more Protein than most. That might help.

I would stay with liquids for awhile....you have a lifetime to get with solids...why not give your stomach more of a chance to heal?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
