Will drinking water stretch my sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I am 12 months post op and have not lost anything for two months. I do drink lots of Water. I can drink 24 ounces at a time with no problem. Is this an issue? Am I stretching my sleeve out? Thanks.

NO, drink your 64 ounces. A year out you should be able to eat and drink fairly normally.

As far as I know, the sleeve won't stretch because the stretchy part of the stomach was cut away. I watched my barium swallow test immediately post-op and liquids were emptied from my stomach rapidly. Once the swelling goes down, I would think that fluids would travel even faster.

This is a long way of saying I truly doubt that drinking Water would stretch your stomach. I would think that if you drank too much Water it would just come back up before it stretched anything.

No but when you say at one time, are you saying you can gulp down 24 ounces in fairly short order (i.e. minutes?). if so, not sure it will stretch out your sleeve but not sure it is wise either. Are you tracking your food? Getting in your Protein? Had a change in exercise?

Thank you all for your advice. By short order I mean , 10 minutes. As for my exercise, I need to get better. The same goes the same for the food log. I am going to start tracking again to see what I am doing.

You definitely need to keep a food log. I would have no idea whether or not I was meeting my Protein target without one. My memory is just not that good.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
