Hi guys! I am 2 weeks post op and I'm doing exceptionally well. I have tolerated everything that I have eaten thus far. I'm a bit bummed that I have only lost 2lbs for the 2nd week. I spoke with my patient advocate about this. I had made a mistake and had been eating small amounts of meat. She said that this was probably the reason for only losing 2lbs. Also, I'm having a terrible time with getting all of my Fluid in for the day. I also wonder if not meeting my fluid goal has contributed to the small loss. Does anyone out there have any insight about this?

Yes. Not getting in enough Fluid can cause all kinds of issues, the least of which is inhibiting weight loss.

Follow your program. Make sure you get in all of your Protein and fluids. Take your Vitamins and supplements as instructed and exercise moderately until you can eat enough to support more intense exercise.

The best thing to do early out is to stay off of the scale and weigh infrequently. Weighing only at your doctor's appointments is the strategy I chose in the first several months post-op.

You are healing from major surgery so the most important thing is to stay hydrated and get in all of your Protein (but only as allowed by your program). Advancing your diet too rapidly can cause set-backs.

Initially fluids are the most important. Get that Water in! Work at it every day. Follow your NUT's guidelines. Get things in writing and consult them if you forget.

ugh, I know what you are saying. I am also 2 weeks post op and today was the worst for me. My boss wanted to take everyone to lunch and he has a couple of favorite places that both serve Soup so I thought I would be ok, but of course we go to an Italian restaurant and I was totally trying to figure out what in the heck was on the menu I could have. They had Soup but it was some kind of seafood something that sounded nasty....so, I ordered a chicken parm sandwhich thinking I could just eat some of the meat out of the bread since I knew Pasta wasn't going to work at all - boy was I wrong. This was the first time I got something that I just couldn't do - had to leave the table and head for the ladies room! I ended up kind of just sipping on the Water I ordered and decided to work on Fluid intake instead of food!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
