4 days post op & have questions

Recommended Posts

I think I am finally on the road to recovery. I had gastric bypass surgery Monday. I am able to walk around my apartment and am taking my pain medication less.

I am still on the liquid stage and had a few questions. My nutritionist said that if I will fill a slight push in my chestwhen I'm full. I haven't had that sensation. Is that because I'm not really "eating" in mainly drinking.

I'm taking this process serious and don't want to mess up. I'm scared, is that normal too?

Thanks in advance for your support.

I didn't feel the 'full' sensation for about 2 weeks after surgery. I remember wondering if they had actually done the surgery lol! I think probably because I was healing and also because I was only drinking liquids. When you feel that 'full' sensation for the first time, though, it will be obvious. Just remember when you start being able to transition from liquids to purred foods to eat slowly so your body has a chance to tell you it is full before you swallow that one bite that will make your stomach hurt.

I didn't feel the full sensation until I was a few weeks out as well. I didn't get a pressure in my chest, it was an actual pulling sensation on my pouch and if it pulled too much I got sick. I eat until satisfied...once my hunger is gone, but before I feel that uncomfortable pulling sensation. I heard the feeling of fullness varies for everyone.

Thanks so much for your response. Good to know that I will feel it. It takes me a good 1.5 he's just to finish my Protein Shakes. Do you have anymore helpful advice I could use?

Just to trust the plan. It works. Don't be discouraged with stalls, they do happen and unfortunately my first one I obsessed over and it was all for nothing. Also if you hit a stall and are eating very little, it could be that you are not taking in enough. 3 different times I increased my calories and was able to get through a stall.

I am so glad I came across this post. I am in my 4th day post op and really started doubting weather my Dr. actually removed any of my stomach!. I feel great I can drink my Protein Shakes and drink all my required liquids without any problem. I've actually had hunger pains.....hoping that when I transition to pureed foods I do get full feeling without consuming a large amount.

I just had my first hunger pain. So I had broth and am sipping it. Honestly it made me a little nervous, I didn't think I would get any hunger pains. For the rest of yall is that normal?

I can't say I've really had a hunger pain so much as hunger notice. Like my pouch said its time to feed me. My pouch is very bossy. I did have a few days where I really wanted some tacos. This was like days 3 and 4. Of course I would not have been able to eat a taco and that craving died down. It's called head hunger when you feel hungry for a real meal so close to surgery. Because your pouch really isn't ready for that but I really wanted a taco! I remembered some of the people talking about this and it made it much easier to deal with that hunger alarm of I gotta have a taco. Before I started my program, if that thought came in my mind I would be in a restaurant eating tacos that day. I've changed the way I think about food. If I feel like I'm hungry now, I eat Protein right away. Or drink Water. Sometimes we feel hunger but we are really needing fluids. I'm sure there are people on here who can explain this better. This has just been my experience. I hope all goes well for you!

What you are experiencing is very normal. It's good that you can tell you are hungry. It's normal to be scared by it. This is the craziest roller coaster ride I've ever been on.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
