Had my sleeve surgery yesterday morning

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery and the doctor said it was a complete success . I'm waiting to go for my upper GI to make sure there are no leaks.what I'm questioning is that, I know the gas pain is horrific and of course my stomach is going to be sore, but i have thrown up 4 times since I've been placed in my room. Everyone is its normal I'm just curious to know if anyone had the same side effect after the surgery. They are all saying the first 24 hours are the worst

My friend had the bypass and he threw up 3 times when he had to take the medicine to check for any leaks etc. He said that was the worst thing ever, but the next day he felt fine. Hang in there and hold a pillow tight against your belly, sometimes that helps. Ask for nausea meds!!! keep sucking on ice chips too!!!

My friend that had the sleeve threw up a lot in the hospital. So much that she had to stay 2 extra days because she couldn't keep anything down. I was lucky not to, but I had read so many stories of people getting sick that I was afraid I would. It seems to be a regular thing.

I threw up twice day after. My husband rubbed my back and shoulders when I had gas pain and it helped me burp and release the gas. He would rub my back several times a day in the week following the surgery and that gave me a lot of comfort and helped the gas pains pass. Good luck and congrats.

I was sleeved on Tuesday 12/15. I have not vomited at all. My understanding is the anesthesia is what makes people sick, fortunately I have never had adverse effects from anesthesia. I'm on day # 4 and feeling wonderful. So, I think in aday or so you should be feeling pretty much back to normal. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I was sleeved on 12/14 and vomited right after surgery and right after going home. What helped me to stop was no more pain meds. They made me sick. Yes I'm sore, but it's not as bad as vomiting hurts, so I'm toughing it out. My surgery was 5 days ago and I feel great! I'm already 24 lbs down!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
