this is kind of an interesting topic here. Every one has different brands they like, some love them some hate them. Many people find that a protien they like pre op they can't stand post op. I would recommend trying to get some individual bottles of a couple different brands and seeing what you like the best

To know how long the powder will last, you need to know what your surgeon or nutritionist recommends on grams per day. Mine had some sort of calculation based on height and weight (said 71 grams minimum per day).

Then you'll need to know how many grams of Protein is in a 'serving' for the product.

Go to the search box and type in Protein powders. There are a million different brands. There are powders, RTD and clear drinks. It's honestly a matter of taste. What one person likes another will hate. Check out the online stores, the health food stores, Whole Foods and drugs stores. Have a taste testing and find out what you like.

My first choice is Syntrax Nectar flavors. I mix 1 full scoop with a spoon, no blender & it mixes perfect. Check out all the flavors available on VitaminShoppe.com

1 full scoop has 23 grams of Protein, zero sugar & zero carbs.

I found that I do like unjury, but it is expensive! I tried one RTD brand, EAS Advantage and that was okay - not my favorite. Also, I hear Premier is good and you can buy at Wal-Mart and costco. I have yet to try that brand as they are always out when I go.

But, yeah, to echo everyone else, it is trial and error and totally preference.

My doctor gave me two choices, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury or Bariatric Advantage for my 2 week pre-op. I ordered the sample pack from Unjury, it comes with 2 servings of each flavor, a thermometer and a mixing bottle.

Good luck :)

I use Premier Protein. I have the chocolate liquid shakes and then the vanilla Protein Powder. The chocolate shakes taste like chocolate milk and the vanilla can be mixed in with everything. Both kinds are 30 grams of Protein. My doctor recommended it because it pretty much has the highest amount of protein out of all of them. My dad had the sleeve surgery 3 years ago and he also recommended Premier for protein too.

I tested a bunch of different kinds and found that the pre-made Pure Protein tasted o.k. to me. I was grateful that after my surgery this week, that they still taste good to me, as I have over 32 12oz cans of it in my fridge. Pure Protein has 35 grams per can and only 4grams of carbs. I have tried three of the different flavors; chocolate, strawberry and banana.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
