Why sleeve and not bypass?

Recommended Posts

It was what my surgeon recommended for me, and I trust his judgment completely. At 4 week post op, I'm glad I did, had nothing but smooth sailing.

I wasn't interested in the bypass and my surgeon recommended the sleeve for me anyway.

I couldn't be happier with my choice of surgeon and procedure. My recovery and progress have been better than I could have ever imagined.

I was worried about long term malabsorption and Vitamin deficiencies with bypass, so I elected for the sleeve. My surgeon said I was a good candidate for either (my initial BMI was 41)

Research as much as you can about both surgeries.

Attend a free WLS seminar at a local hospital and go to a few WLS support group meetings.

Talk to a surgeon, your PCP and address any medical conditions you have.

This will help you make the best decision for YOU.

Congratulations.

Samantha did your BMI drop below 40 during your pre-op process? If so, how did your insurance company handle that?

I did my research prior to consult and wanted the sleeve. I didn't want the malabsorption of Vitamins and just wanted the stomach portion removed permanently.

My surgeon asked what I wanted and he agreed the sleeve was best. It has worked wonderfully so far!

No matter the opinions you get, do what is right for you.

Yes I'm wondering that too, I'm at 42 now and scared to "lose" because I have heard insurance has denied people due to dropping BMI.

Sean what insurance do you have? I have Harvard pilgrim.

I went from band to sleeve. I chose the sleeve because I wanted to maintain my pyloric valve and did not like the idea of a blind stomach which could not be scoped etc.

My surgeon recommended sleeve because you have more medication options later. I have some joint problems that require meds.

After research both bypass and sleeve, I was more comfortable with the sleeve than the bypass.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
