3 weeks post op extreme fatigue

Recommended Posts

I am 3 1/2 weeks post op. I have never been one to nap and usually have good energy. However, for the last week and a half (since I went on pureed foods) I am struggling. Yesterday I slept so much I missed a meal and some liquids. I am bone tired. I am out of work until the beginning of January so I have time on my hands. This morning I slept until 1030. Usually I'm up by 730. I am taking all my Vitamins. I admit Protein has been a bit of a struggle so I have gone back to one Protein shake a day with added greek yogurt to up the Protein grams. I am pretty close to 60 grams a day as recommended. I have been Water jogging with weights every day except today when I went in to lie down for about a half and hour and wound up sleeping 3 and a half hours.

This is so not me.

Anyone else experience this?

I was very tired for about the first four to five weeks. I just tried to listen to my body and rest when needed.

Once the fatigue went away my energy levels returned and I had more energy than ever before.

It sounds like you are doing a great job getting in your exercise while balancing it with the sleep your body is craving.

Hang in there things get easier!! Enjoy the rest of your time off.

everyone experiences this. Your body is healing from major surgery and you are not consuming that many calories. So yes You will feel weak.

Thanks. I am just dragging. Bummed out I missed my workout today but I think my body needed the sleep more.

Very similar experience for me. Started getting back to normal around week 6. Now I go to sleep around 10 and wake up around 430 am. My body only needs about 6 and 1/2 hours as part of the new normal. Hang in there, you should rebound soon. Have you had your blood work done again yet?

This is very normal for all of the changes your body is going through. You will get past this at about week 6 or 7. Your body is still thinking that you are starving it and is holding onto everything and all of the energy because it's scared that you aren't ever going to feed it again. Your body will adjust to this new lifestyle and once you are allowed to eat a full diet again you will get a TON of energy.

I used to go to bed at 8pm and get up at 6:30am for work every day. I had surgery and needed even more sleep. Now at almost 4 months out I go to be at 11pm get up at 6am and am energized all day long. It just takes time.

any chance you on BP meds? I had lost enough weight at that time that my medication was too strong and my BP was running really low 60/100. make sure you are getting enough Water because dehydration can make you tired too.

Thanks all. I upped my Water intake and did a Protein shake for Breakfast to ensure that I got the right Protein grams. Still feel tired but not as bad as Tuesday and Wednesday.

First make sure you get in ALL your Protein. It's essential to your healing and recovery. If you are feeling so tired, I would cut the Water jogging down to taking a walk for 30 minutes. It's counter productive to work out super hard if you are so fatigued.

I've been doing B12 and b complex daily. Feel a little better today. I upped my Water intake and finally had a bm so maybe that was my problem. Still a little tired but don't feel like I'm about to drop.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
