Starting Weight Training

Recommended Posts

7 weeks after surgery have been walking 30 minutes 4 to 5 times a week. Planning on joining a gym with a personal trainer. Has anyone done weight training and found success with it? I have an option to work out 2 or 3 times a week. Don't know which to pick.

Aloha Jano

I got my band on the 11th. of July and was in the gym on the 16th. for 35 min. on the thread mill and have gone everyday except on Sunday (had to go to church). I was told to go 5-6 days aweek, will be starting my weight training on Monday the 30th. Nothing heavy for a few more weeks just trying to get a head start and tone up. One thing that is really helping me is my dear sweet wife will be getting her band on the 29th. of Aug. So the support is there and going to the gym and taking walks with her is the best ever.

Well good luck and go for it

Aloha

Hi:

I haven't been banded yet but I can give you a little advice. The best thing to do is BOTH. Weight training is priceless because it really hits areas that cardio misses (and not intentionally). Although there is no such thing as target weight loss (technically); if you do weight training (upper back, shoulders, pecs, etc.); at least 2 times a week (gradually increasing weight once you get comfortable enough not to feel it that much); you will DEFINITELY see great great improvements with your upper body. You should not start with really heavy weights. Start with 5 unless those are very easy. If so, start with 8lbs ones. A good book to look at is body for life. They also have a website with transformations for you to view. its all real too. That program is great. The technique is called pyramiding because you keep increasing your capabilities quite freaquently so you continue to get stronger. The program works in 12 week increments and has a diet to follow too but after the band, you don't need that part but it teaches you about weight training and how to go about starting and making it work for you individually. Remember to Isolate!

Good Luck:clap2::whoo:

I reckon! I'm 5ft 10 and 169lb and still in an Australian 14 which is about a 10-12 in American sizes.

Its weird how people can weigh the same yet be a completely different shape. I have hips, which keeps me in relatively larger sizes. I disappear when I turn sideways, lol, but am wider from side to side.

Wow, that's an awesome website! I started lifting weights recently and this really helps. You don't even need a personal trainer if you follow these exercises. Cool : )

Yes~ Body-for-LIFE. I forgot to put it in. Anyone wanting to learn about weights and definition would benefit from it tremendously.

      Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
