BullyMomma 10 Posted December 16, 2015 Hi all! I've been hanging around here a bit and getting great advice so I figured I'd jump in with a little about me. I'm almost done with all of my pre-reqs for surgery and hoping for an early February sleeve date. I've already seen a few others on here in the Philly area using Penn. So far, I'm really happy with them, but all of the appointments are a little overwhelming. One of the things that's a little different about my process is that my husband and I are going through it at the same time. His surgery will probably be around 2 weeks after mine. Has anyone else had surgery with a significant other? I'm also surprised at how negative some people are about the idea of the surgery. I learned my lesson pretty fast to watch who I tell, so I'm glad to have my husband to go through it with, and that I found this forum.
taysidebell 176 Posted December 16, 2015 It's great to have someone to go through the journey with. I have been very selective with who I have told only trusted friends and family X good luck X
Blamo 35 Posted December 17, 2015 (edited) Good to see you here. It is a great thing that you and your husband can do this at the same time. Mutual support should make things easier for both of you. I too was concerned who I told at first and expected some "taking the easy way out" nonsense. I am lucky I guess because I got nothing but terrific support from my friends, family and coworkers. If you think someone might be negative, and I am sure that is from jealousy, don't involve them in this. But don't let it bother you. You have better things to do. OKCPirate 5,323 Posted December 17, 2015 @@BullyMomma - Smart guy. Some might fault him for being a wimp, letting his wife have the procedure before him, but I think he's doing the right thing. He's going to be 100% ready to help and support his wife post surgery and having the procedure close enough to the time you have yours so you will remember the first few days stank. Congrats and good luck.
BullyMomma 10 Posted December 17, 2015 Ha! The plan was to actually have him go first, but my schedule is more flexible so I was able to start the process a little earlier. It's probably better that I got first. I had my upper GI today. He had his a few days and got me a little psyched out but it was nothing! Only one more clearance (pulmonary) to go! Thanks for the well wishes an support!
NYGirlxo 25 Posted December 17, 2015 Hi Bully Momma! First I'd just like to say that I am also a proud bully momma ! Lol Anyway, my boyfriend and I will be going in for surgery together. He was approved right away about 6 months ago however I was not and my insurance required that I do 6 months of support groups. My boyfriend decided that this was something he wanted to do together and began to go to the support groups with me so that he could also educate himself as much as possible before the big day. So here I am about 6 months later finishing up my support groups on January 7th, going for my work up on the 13th and then waiting to hear from my insurance company. For a while I couldn't decide between the sleeve and the band but with the help of these forums I decided that the sleeve would be best for me. I was told I'd be going in for surgery around mid February but I'm hoping for early February lol.. Either way I'm just so happy to begin this journey and I feel so lucky to be able to share the ups and downs with someone I love! Good luck to you I can't wait to hear more about your journey I definitely want to connect with other women as I'm sure men and woman probably have different experiences! xo. Btw I'm 5'4 and my starting weight is
BullyMomma 10 Posted December 18, 2015 @@NYGirlxo Wow we have so much in common! And it looks like we're on the same schedule for the surgery. Can't wait to see your results! We did go to one support group that had a patient panel and it was great. These people were talking about how they just aren't hungry and don't crave junk food even when it's around them. It doesn't seem real lol but I hope I can be in the same position in a few months.
