Anyone made a big deal out of surgery before having it and turned out not as bad as they thought?

I'm scheduled for January 13th and panicking about it. I know it's normal but I just want everything over soon with good results.

I didn't make a big deal about it, but I was pleasantly surprised at how little pain I had. No real pain just soreness.

My sleeve was my 12th surgery. It was the easiest recovery of them all. Just think of it as a nice nap and when you wake up you will be on the way to re-inventing a new you. I only took pain meds at home for two days and was started on pureed foods as soon as I got home from the hospital on day two.

I was pleasantly surprised how good I felt after having 90% of my stomach removed, LOL. I was out of the hospital within 24 hours, never needed narcotic pain meds and returned to work the next week. I can't say the first month was all puppies and unicorns, there WAS an adjustment period and recovery time, but overall, the procedure was much easier than I expected, I had little fatigue and there was much less pain than anticipated. Good luck!

I didn't make a big deal out of it. My sister thought I was going to die though. However, I did dread the supposed pain of the gas that everyone keeps talking about. In reality I had zero gas pain. It only felt like I got punched in the stomach. Very minor. It was a breeze.

I didn't make a big deal about it either. I just wanted to get the show on the road! Aside from some problems with reflux, it was pretty easy peasy.

It was my first ever surgery, so I was pretty freaked out about it. I also told no one before I had the surgery, so I think if I had the option to talk about it I might have been less stressed. I was self-pay so from the time I decided to go to a consult to the time I was on the OR table was about 2 weeks, so I didn't have much time to process. The first 1-2 weeks for me was horrible. I was convinced I had ruined my life. I was super sick in the hospital, my doctor was a jerk, and I didn't start to feel a little less sick until I got back to mushy foods. The pain was pretty much non-existent, but the nausea and the fear that I had destroyed my life made me a sad girl for a few weeks, lol.

I wish I could go back and tell pre-surgery me and immediately post-surgery me that everything would work out wonderfully.

Always plan for the worst, pray for the best. It's surgery, there are risks. However being fat had greater risks.

Nerves are typical. Try to get yourself in the best shape you can. Walk often. Pay attention to the pre-op diet (they want your liver as small as possible so the surgeon has an easy shot to the stomach. Practice eating slow one meal a day. Get a blender for shakes. Get a coffee cup warmer to put your plate on when you eat to keep your food warm. And sample all the different Protein shakes and Isopure so you have that ready from day 1.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
