Anyone's first surgery?

Recommended Posts

I was able to start eating eggs & cottage cheese after one week. My first meal was almost the entire egg (scrambled). My swelling has gone down and now I can typically eat 2 eggs (almost) or about 1/2 cup of food. Today I finally get to start eating vegetables and low fat cheese. I am excited!

I had my tonsils out at 17 and the recovery was terrible. Wisdom teeth done the same year , that didn't suck as bad, but I also got knocked out for that. I'm not as much scared of the surgery I'm more scared of the tube they put down your throat, and the thought of a catheter- and I will just say it I suck with pain - I am a baby so the thought of pain afterwards scares the crap out of me- that is why I will be doing everything the surgeon says pre surgery - i don't know how much of a difference that makes- it's funny though because I can handle a tattoo , getting blood drawn, piercings etc but let me get a sore throat and you would think someone was murdering me. I am also really apprehensive over the sleep study - I go back and forth between having insomnia and sleeping excessively/ and sleeping on demand/ I'm scared I won't be able to fall asleep and that will ruin my chance to have surgery. I'm so far early in - not even an appointment yet- should be getting one scheduled after today's seminar - and here I am stressing over things I shouldn't be stressing over yet-

Thanks for sharing your experiences/thoughts. As the surgery date approaches my nervousness level is getting higher. I have even become not sure of my decision now. This feeling is killing me even. I am very worried of the whole experience

I've had 3 C-sections and a hysterectomy. I was awake for the C-sections but put to sleep for the hysterectomy. It was a little intimidating to go into the operating room for the hysterectomy, but they have you asleep so fast you don't have time to get worked up about it. It seems like just minutes later you're awake again.

I've never been put to sleep for surgery before and am very nervous about it.

If I recall correctly, I think they put Xanax or something in my I.V. before they took my back, so I was pretty relaxed before they actually put me to sleep. I vaguely remember them telling me to count backwards from 10, and I didn't even make it to 5 or 6 and I was zonked out.

It's gonna be my 1st major surgery put under. I had my wisdom teeth out and went under fine for that. I also had a csection but was awake. It's just the thought of going under for some reason. I will definitely need something to calm me down before hand.

I am now scheduled for Feb 25. I am very excited, but terrified at the same time. This will be my second surgery (C-Section in 2004), but my first time going under. I hope that I can keep calm and trust the doctors as they have dealt with bariatric patients many times (my hospital is a Center of Excellence for WLS) - it's the fear of the unknown that just freaks me out...

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
