Social butterfly after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Curious to know how surgery has changed your social life? I have become so secluded (self imposed) since gaining 100 lbs over the past five years. I am confident that this surgery will bring back my confidence and eliminate embarrassment I've felt when out in public. I used to love being around people and am so excited to get a new lease on life!

Speaking from someone who've just lost 100 lbs so far I feel different in a good way. I feel more confident, and attractive again. I now take pride in what I wear and I'm getting comfortable in the skin I'm in. I used to stay to myself, depressed and isolated. I was ignored by the opposite sex and now when I go out I find heads turn again and conversations being initiated. It's an awesome feeling.

I have started going out more, went to the baseball game a few times this year, and I like going places where I can walk like out door malls or big stores like bass pro. I love that I can walk and get around easier without being winded or tired after. I walk with my daycare kiddos when the weather lets me. We walk about 2/3 of a mile on our walks. Plus right now I am about 20 pounds from goal so I am going to the gym everyday except Sunday's. I use to send me last kiddo home at 6, fix dinner and eat, then lay in bed the rest of the night because I was so tired. Now I send my last kiddo home, leave for gym, shop or run errands and by the time I get home it is 9:30-10 so I do go to bed, but now it is because I was at the gym for two hours. But I would really like to start making more friends as I really don't have any close friends because my hubby is a preacher people only get so close to you. If is just a part of the job that people don't get to close because they are afraid you are going to move on, see their faults, etc. I don't look at it that way and I wish others didn't also.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
