5 months post op

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, yesterday I had my 5 month mark. I have lost 51 lbs since surgery. I must say last month I have been in a stall. I'm happy with my results I just hope I can lose more. Not sure if I'm doing something really wrong and sabotaging my results. I have not been getting enough Water or Protein in a day. I need help or tips how I can do that.

@@sonya89 congratulations on your success! I know it can be hard hitting those liquid and Protein goals, yet the closer you get the better the loss in general.

I know for me, I tried a lot of different methods until the habits stuck, everything from alarms and tracking apps on my phone to sticky notes and multiple cups everywhere as reminders. Figure out where your system is breaking down and try something different.

Research indicates small action steps are more successful than super huge goals, so if you want to drink more Water, start with it first thing in morning or last at night in addition to what you are already doing (or something that is doable for you). Then when you have that down, add another step like drink some Water before every meal or drink 6 oz every hour at work.

Best of luck to you!

I started at around the same place, am five months out, and have lost the exact same amount of weight. Sometimes it seems like I am doing something wrong, especially when I read the posts of people who lost 71 pounds in two months or something ridiculous. But I feel great and have not lost any hair, which I attribute to my slow loss (even though I have no idea if that's true). I figure eventually we will get where we need to be. Slow and steady wins the race.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
