I am so excited! I am on day 13 of my clear liquid, Protein Shake pre-op diet so I understand what you new pre-opers are going through. Here are a few things that has helped me - if you can have sugar free popsicles try putting an orange one in your vanilla shake (or any flavor popsicle), put a little Decaf instant coffee in shakes it helps cut down on sweetness as well as changes the flavor and of course the sugar free syrups. I have caramel and I combine a chocolate shake with a few squirts of caramel and a little instant coffee and its just like Starbucks...not really but it's something different! I also got an ice tea maker so I can put decaf tea in it and add stevia if I want it a little sweet and mint if I'm feeling real crazy. I got tired of the taste of sweeteners. Also, congrats to all that are on the losers bench already! Its so inspiring to hear how well everyone is doing! Keep letting us know what works for you and how you're doing! I'm praying and thinking about all of you!!! I have surgery this Monday, Feb 8th so if you could do the same for me I would appreciate it!

Same! Mine is today also! In excited but very nervous and scared

My surgery is tomorrow!! I am nervous and excited. Pre-op was challenging this week, but based on some suggestions found here, I finally enjoy my Protein Shake. I am gluten free and lactose intolerant, so I have been using a hemp/pea Protein blend. It is heavy and dense. I know use sugar free caramel flavoring with cashew milk, one scoop of regular Protein Powder and a 1/4 scoop of chocolate flavor, plus some ice. It is now pretty tasty.

The only part I am nervous about is the shot I have to give myself for 7 days. It is a blood thinner so I don't get any clots.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
