Question about incisions...

Recommended Posts

So, I had gastric sleeve surgery 12/08/15 and have 6 incisions. I have noticed that the larger one on the right where my stomach was removed is "indented". The rest are all flat but this one caves in. I'm assuming it's because that one had sutures to close it up and the skin was just pulled taught. I have a post-op coming up next week so I'll talk to my surgeon then, I was just curious if anyone else had this issue. Thanks!

My larger incision pooches out slightly. I think it all depends on the angle of the cut, how it was sutured, and how your skin heals. Not a whole lot to be done about it.

At one year out, I can barely see it now. ;)

You're not describing what sounds at all like an "issue." Not all incisions and subsequent scarring are identical and yours does not sound out of the ordinary. As it's only a week old, it's also too soon to know how it will change over the next few months, but it won't become more prominent than it is now.

I was done on the same day and the area around my largest incision also seems to be sunken. I took my bandage things off today.

I only have four incisions; I was expecting five.

The largest one is the one they pull the stomach, etc. through. My surgeon said that one is the only one with a stitch in it. It looked sunken for a couple weeks, but is more flat now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
