Dairy stops weight loss?

Recommended Posts

Do any of you feel that when you eat dairy products, your weight-loss slows down?

I am not talking about those of you who are obviously allergic to dairy or lactose intolerant. This question is for those of you who are able to tolerate dairy but maybe it slows down your weight loss?

The reason I ask is because I love dairy products and I do not have any side effects and I don't feel bad with eating or drinking dairy products. But I have read that dairy products causes inflammation for some people and I am wondering if dairy products is making my weight loss extra slow.

Anyway, just wondering what you all think of dairy products. There are some schools of thought out there that think dairy products are not good for anybody and I feel that dairy products are a good way of getting Protein and Calcium but just wondering if anyone thinks dairy is negative for weight-loss?

It's nothing that I have ever found - real milk in Protein Shakes, greek yogurt, cheese, etc. I guess that there could always be some outliers that might respond like that, but they would be just that - those well outside the norm.

I haven't noticed that weeks I may eat less dairy has slowed my weight loss.

I eat dairy almost every single meal and I think I'm pretty on key with the weight loss average :)

I guess you'd have to test it.... and then let us know what the outcome is! Haha

Ii am sorta feeling that way -- I feel like when I added a Laughing Cow wedge each day, my progress slowed.

I definitely didn't find that. Greek yogurt and 2% cheese sticks are staples in my diet during the actively losing phase and now in maintanence too.

I eat Greek yogurt and cheese and drink milk EVERY SINGLE DAY. I lost over 100% of my excess weight in 10 months and have kept it off for 14 months, so I'd say, no, dairy does not stop weight loss.

cheese and yogurt have been a major part of my post-op eating. Not bothering me at all.

Ditto. Huge part of my diet. I guess I don't know it loss would have gone faster but not sure I would have wanted it to. I'm quite happy with the 10 to 12 pounds loss per month.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
