Starting a phase 1-2 earlier and the puree phase

Recommended Posts

Hello Sleevers!

This is kind of a two part post! I have another week on liquids but I was curious if any of you guys decided to move onto the puree phase a day or two early. I don't know if I will try or not but I've been pretty good with Jello and cream Soups. I may try and if it doesn't go well then I'll go back to Jello for a couple more days. I'm struggling with getting Protein big time so I'm looking forward to being able to have more options. My second curiosity is what you guys made and ate during your puree phase and if you blended everything or just chewed extra well. Also, if you did a different phase earlier I would like to know about that as well :) My curiosity always gets the best of me.

I didn't progress through any of my food stages early. Even though I "felt" fine, who knows what was really going on on the inside. It wasn't worth risking my healing or causing a leak just so I could chew food one day sooner, you know?

I actually never once pureed anything during my pureed phase. I drank my Protein shakes, had strained cream Soups a LOT, and used the recipes on Shelly's page (mostly the baked ricotta) here:

I did a lot of cottage cheese and yogurt. And once I was allowed soft foods, a lot of scrambled eggs and soft cheeses.

You need to really stick to what your team and NUT have suggested especially so early on. I ate a lot of high Protein yogurt and cottage cheese, sticking to the Protein drinks and adding a food every other day and being very careful and over zelous with the puree machine I used. Take it slow so you know what works and doesn't work for you.

Best of luck and congratulations on the surgery :)

That baked ricotta is so amazing. You feel like you are getting to eat REAL FOOD!

My surgeon only restricted me to Clear Liquids while in the hospital but once discharged, he had me on phase 3 which includes full liquids, purees/mushy/soft foods like cottage cheese, yogurt, tuna. I was sleeved just over a week ago and stuck with full liquids, pureed Soups, and yogurt the first week but I recently had some pureed tuna w/mayo, pureed rotisserie chicken with gravy and everything has been fine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
