Age 23, NJ/NY, 1Y 9M Post-Op

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody,

My name is Angie and I'm new to this online support method. I'm looking for people my age with whom I could relate to and seek advice from with no judgement. I'm almost two years post op and have lost over 170 pounds. I actually dropped almost 10 pounds below my goal and have maintained it since my weight stabilized in September.

I’ve been fortunate enough to stick to a healthy eating regimen for almost two years now. But realistically it's not perfect, and believe me the struggle is never over. Besides seeking advice, I'm also here to give advice when needed. I love to cook and remake healthy renditions to recipes, and am more than happy to share.

I also struggle with depression and body image issues, and would love to connect and help others in similar situations. Feel free to contact me, I don't bite!

Hi Angie & Welcome!

My apologies but I am not in your age group, I am 52. Does it count that I feel like I am in my 20's again?LOL!

Congratulations on your incredible weight loss and more importantly your maintenance. You should be very proud of your self!

I really hope and pray I can be successful at maintenance, I never want to return to my old fat self.

You can both receive and support many on this site. I just wanted to say welcome!

Hey, I'm 23 too! I'm Abby, from Rochester NY. I had my RNY on August 17th, so I'm only 4 months post op. I started at a higher BMI as well. Can't wait to be 170 pounds down from surgery. It's nice to meet you. ^_^

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
