Sleeve to RNY?

Recommended Posts

Hello, this is my first post so I'm not sure if it goes here, and partial rant but I need ideas or if anyone has had similar experiences.

I was sleeved Feb 17 of this year. So far I've lost over 115 pounds, however I've hit an unexpected problem the last **6** weeks! When I eat food, I get a pain anywhere between my throat and sternum. The pain will continue for 1-2 hours after eating, and will happen with anything, whether it be a Protein shake or a regular meal. It has gotten to the point where I'm slightly scared/nervous to eat because each time the food regurtitates itself back into my throat as if something is stuck somewhere.

Prior to this happening I was hitting all my macros, and doing it consistantly. Each day tracking foods with myfitnesspal, and making sure I stay within my surgical teams nutrition guidelines. However at this point I'm eating about 1 meal a day, and only taking in roughly 500 calories (I understand this is a problem) So at this point I"m worried about this slowing/stalling my weight loss, on top of issues with taking in so few calories.

As far as what has happened so far: I use to take prilosec daily, when this started happening I had an upper GI which came back showing everything was looking great. Then I started having pain in my side, so they did an ultrasound and found gallstones, which resulted in my gallbladder being taken out. Yet from this pain still exists. At this point I had an endoscopy which showed everything looked normal. I'm now taking Protonix instead of prilosec as prescribed by my surgeon.

This leads us to now where I'm waiting to do another upper GI, and then there might be talk of doing a revision to a RNY.

As this is affecting my daily life, I'm wondering if anyone has had anything similar? How long it takes to go from the stage I'm at to a sleeve revision? And if there are any other steps besides possibly being prescribed Protonix+Prilosec daily?

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like a stricture but you said they didn't find anything. I would get a second opinion just to be sure.

I am betting more have this too. Did you google this? I agree on the second opinion. No hiatal hernia found? What is the length of time since now and the endoscopy?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
