Need ideas for Xmas gift for recent VSG patient

Recommended Posts

Any ideas on a Christmas gift for someone who is six months post op for VSG surgery? She's very close to her goal weight or what she's happy with. I've already ordered a digital scale, hers is ancient, but I want to get her more. We had our surgery together and it's my mom, she's helped me so much and I just want to show my gratitude. But no clue what to get.

Gift card to a store for new clothes? Or if it's your mom, a shopping trip together to buy new clothes?

What's your budget? I may get myself a piece of jewelry with a diamond for each 10 lbs I've kissed goodbye. A more affordable option is one of the customizeable lockets with charms inside. You can get crystals in them, plates with "congratulations" or "believe", or even have your surgery dates engraved on the back.

You two are doing this together. ...how about getting her and you a tattoo?

If you're into that, of course

Thank you all for your replies, I've decided to get her a digital scale because hers is ancient and a plaque showing my appreciation for all that she does. The stripper idea was hilarious and I'm sure she'd enjoy, but just not the right touch. I'm into tattoos and she's interested, she has a birthday in February so I think I will save up for that, I really love that idea, will just need to find the right design. Again thanks guys! If you have ideas for designs I'm all ears. Happy Holidays and keep up the good work. ????

Does she exercise? I just bought myself a fit belt and I love it! I walk outside rather than at the gym so it's perfect for carrying my phone, headphones, keys, etc. while keeping my hands free.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
