Craving chips and salsa/avocado

Recommended Posts

Ok so I am 4 weeks post op and I have this ridiclious craving for chips and salsa or avocado slices. I know I'm not allowed chips so I need suggestions as to what else to dip or how I can satisfy that craving. I'm on soft foods.

You could make cheese chips. I use a baking mat to melt cheese in the oven until it's crispy and brown around the edges. I personally love Colby jack the most but you should try out different kinds. post-247983-14500606150219_thumb.jpg

Oh that looks good. Do you think parchment paper would work? Also how long do you cook them or just watch them melt a bit and get crispy?

I make my own guacamole and serve it on my plate with a hamburger patty, roast chicken or turkey, or ham and cheese roll-ups.

You can spray mountain bread with a little olive oil spray then bake for 5 minutes then break it apart

if you're on soft food you can still have the avocado and salsa. I would use a slice of cucumber to dip with

I do a bean bowl. ¼ cup black Beans, salsa, shredded cheese, dice avocado. You can up the Protein by adding dollop of greak yogurt instead of cream cheese. Everything else is allowed on a soft diet and give you Protein plus Fiber.

As you progress to all foods cucumber and baked cheese chips are good alternative. I even read that some people bake pepperoni slices.

I'm sure parchment paper would work as well. And I just bake until they look a bit brown around the edges. The more you do it the more you'll know exactly when to take them out.

How in the world is melba toast or parchment paper better than chips?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
