No restriction so I've gone crazy

Recommended Posts

Wow, this weekend I went crazy with food. I'm still in the soft foods phase post-op but that hasn't stopped me from wolfing down ice cream and any other food that I can pulverize to eat. I'm not sure why I've gotten so off track. I don't get my fill until the middle of August. Does anyone have some suggestions for how to get a handle on eating when there is no restriction? Thank god I haven't gone totally crazy with pizza or bread and thankfully I've run out of ice cream in the house (won't be replacing it either) but I need some help getting my head hunger under control. Thanks!

:help:

Cherrybomb: (fabulous name by the way)..... Jack's advice is great. Did you see the Movie "9 1/2 weeks" with Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger? It's this sexy film where this couple (who barely know each other) play sex games with food. At least that's all I remember about it, although I'm sure there's a bigger plot line, haha! I think he blindfolded her and fed her all these different textures and flavors until she was moaning with pleasure and begging for it (the food, not the other "it"). All this sensual pleasure over these little tastes of food! You get the idea. But sometimes, as they say in AA "one is never enough, and a thousand is too many"........ so that might hold true for tastes of your favorite ice cream. You have to see which works better for you.

I think I would watch the "live surgery" of the banding procedure you can find on this website. I did and I was thinking "OH, that's why we're supposed to shrink our liver first, and THAT's why we don't want to barf and slip our band, etc." All the real footage in living color really made it sink in. Next time you're hungry, try watching that! Also get out of the house! Get angry at those urges! Just get out the front door and walk away from the house, big angry stomps around the yard even. Damn that food, it will NOT cause you to fail! You are WOMAN- now ROAR! You're soooooooooo close to a fill. Don't cause a band slip now! Your surgical site is still healing, don't screw it up!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
