My surgeon rarely does drains. It was one of the things I asked him at my preop appointment. Ask your surgeon.

It depends on the surgeon. I had a drain for 2 days. It was removed before I went home.

Not every surgeon uses a drain. However, mine does and he said it would be there for one week. In researching this last night, I discovered even if a drain is used that doesn't mean a leak cant occur in a different part of the stomach and the drain would not pick the leak up so that doesnt make me feel all that great. I will be asking my surgeon about this.

Nope. No drain here.

My surgeon glued all my incisions. Sixteen months later I can find only two of my incisions, and I expect they'll disappear soon.

I had a drain. Whether you have one or not really doesn't make a huge difference one way or the other. The drain is almost always removed before you leave the hospital and it is only used to help drain out any residual Fluid that accumulates in your abdomen, which give you basically cut out your stomach, is a lot of Fluid that reacts to what your body sees as trauma. I had drains for all 3 of my plastics procedures too. It is basically just a negative pressure suction ball...the tube is in your abdomen, the ball is on the outside, and before the suction ball is closed, you squeeze it so that the pressure pulls out the extra fluid. Removing the drain is as simply as cutting the suture and pulling the tube out.

So, don't be worried about whether you have a drain or not...you won't notice it much, the nurses will take it out for you, and it's not a complicated device at all.

Same for me. My surgeon says he still sometimes has to use them for bypass patients but almost never for his sleeve patients.

I had bypass and my surgeon always does drains with bypass. But he doesn't use them with sleeve patients. Honestly I felt better upfront knowing I was going to have a drain. Better safe than sorry. But everyone is different.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
