Oh my Protein, how I love you let me count the ways....but I am Traveling?

Recommended Posts

As I am returning from a week long trip to D.C., I realized how much I missed my Protein drink. It was a real struggle to get enough Protein in without it and let me just say there were not many options. Of course I managed but I was not making goal. This morning, I went straight to the fridge, got out my Protein Drink and now I am enjoying this 30g first thing in the morning. On the next trip I will have to either pack some in my checked luggage or scout for the places they have the kind I like prior to even getting to the location.

That being said, if anyone has a new innovative ways to get your protein while traveling please let me know. This includes special orders at restaurants/hotels as well.

@@PinkGirl, thanks for the info. However, I have tried tons of Protein options and the one I can tolerate and actually like is premixed. So what I am looking for is creative ways to get Protein in using real foods while traveling not protein powders and mixes.

A side of Scrambled eggs is always good for Breakfast. appetizers of shrimp cocktail or bacon wrapped scallops are more than enough for a meal. lunch or dinner options usually have some version of a petite sirloin or grilled chicken breast with broccoli. Most restaurants have at least a few decent options if you just look at the Protein with some broccoli, green Beans, or asparagus... and skip the bread and rice/potato.

Personally, I still take some of the single serve packets of Syntrax nectar... or stop at any convenience store and pick up a Muscle Milk (or any with decent protein/low carb ratio) ready-to-drink... and have that for Breakfast to start the day. I don't really like the Muscle Milk, but I can suck it up and drink one if that is what's available.

Lianna, thanks for the suggestions. I found that the salad bar is a nice option as well as long as there is Protein offered there

I have just been to Cuba on holiday and was worried about getting enough Protein. I had eggs every morning with a bit of ham and cheese which set me up for the day. lunch was fish or chicken and so was dinner. I took low carb Protein Bars in case it was difficult getting enough protein in. In fact it was fine.

Since surgery I have only been on two short road trips to see family. I took a little travel cooler with some Premier Protein and a few Quest bars. I had the premier really as a backup but they came in handy when I was short on my Protein.< /p>

Hi. I travel often for work. And I noticed the Quest singleserving packs work great with the blend with the shaker bottle. Also- i get the 30g Protein bars too!

OMG I completely forgot about the Protein bars. Well I cannot have then yet, but I will try to find some I like.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
