I'm sitting here shaking after i woke up choking on vomit and stomach acid. Has anyone has this happen? I'm about 7 weeks out from surgery. I'm feeling pretty freaked right now.

Are you taking an acid blocker? Prilosec, Prevacid, Nexium? If, not call your surgeon for a prescription or get some OTC at Wal-Mart or your local pharmacy.

If you are already taking something you may have increase your dose or change to something different.

This happens to me if I eat or drink too close to bed time. I can not eat two hours before I lay down or I wake up choking on acid too. I take a Prilosec daily and a Zantac.

What she said ???????? If I eat within 2 hours of bedtime this happens. Also, I always try to end my day with a 20 oz cup of hot tea (obviously wait an hour after eating). This seems to flush all food out of my sleeve and I sleep with no incident.

I was prescribed Omeprazole twice daily for the first 3 months. I still take one daily. I agree with everyone above, a good practice is to not eat anything within an hour or two before bed, and I always drink a glass of Water between my last meal and bedtime.

I had several episodes of reflux about 2 months out when I skipped the Omeprazole. You are right, it is scary and disgusting. Since about month 4-5 I only take one a day and if I skip it I don't have any night-time reflux... so the body seems to be adjusting. I still take ONE daily because when I don't my stomach gets burpy, rumbly, and I feel like I am starving with hunger all day.

I am also on two pills a day to combat reflux and counter gastric bleeds. Sending you prayers. Are you better now?

Yes this happened to me every night for 5-6 nights in a row back in the fall. Called the surgeons office and they said that the band will tighten up if there is any inflammation. Mine happened to be post nasal drip from allergies. Took some Benadryl and Prevacid all was fine again.

This has happened to me several times, due to eating to close to bedtime as others have said, but, I also noticed that if I snack on anything heavy like cheese or Peanut Butter after 6, I will have an episode. jake

Call the doctor, get a script for a PPI. Don't eat too late and watch highly acidic foods like lemons, coffee, and Tomato based products. A PPI takes 5 -7 days to really kick in and work well, so you may want to sleep slightly elevated until then.

The same thing happened to me! When I was laying down and I would fall asleep I would wake up throwing up. I talked to my surgeon and she said I'm drinking Water too fast and to take smaller sips. But ever since I've been home I've slept in a recliner cause it hurts me to lay down but most importantly cause I'm not throwing up water while I'm trying to sleep. Best of luck ????

I used to suffer from horrible reflux as well. I never ate before bed. I tried acid reducers, slept in a recliner, and nothing helped except having all of the removed from my band. I had all the usual test to make sure I didn't have slippage and I didnt. Turns out I had heard pylori though. After being treated for that I have never had a problem with reflux no matter how tight my band or when I eat in relation to when I go to bed. Hope this helps

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
