What To Do On Weekends

Now that my energy levels up I have not a single clue what to do with myself on a Saturday night. I have been mostly just cleaning up everything, organizing and purging all day and walking. Even the carpets got shampooed yesterday.

Tonight, I'm staying home for the first time in a long time. I went and grabbed some lentil vegan Soup with a couple of people and then returned home. I have lost desire to go out to parties or bars for a nightlife.

I can only go shopping so many times a week. I think it's high time I find new hobbies or Bari sis/bros to socialize with. I do read and I also make jewelry. But these don't require company and are sedentary. I don't own a TV by choice.

Wish there was a support group meeting for folks like us on Saturdays.

Wow, no TV? I just finished watching 'How to Marry a Millionaire' with Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable, and Lauren Bacall. Then I watched 'Desk Set' with Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. I love old movies.

@@magtart got rid of tv four and half years ago and don't miss it at all. I love going to movies. I do stream Netflix on my laptop if I want to watch anything special. But I prefer to be out with people.

How about movies? This is Oscar season, lots of good options!

What climate are you in? You can do indoor skating, check out sporting games maybe? I do remember when I was in great shape, it WAS annoying how much energy I had at night, when the rest of the world shut down. I think I used to walk the lit high school track a lot with one of my girlfriends, and that was a great way to exercise and mentally unwind. I'd be wide awake walking, but by the time I drove home, I was beat and slept like a baby.

Also, why not go out with friends? Are they unsupportive, or is it not fun now that you can't really eat/drink socially right now?

I know it can be dorky, but bowling can be fun for an impromptu get-together.

What are your interests? Is there any hobby courses at night you'd like to take? I took a Photoshop and Microsoft Office, and those were 1x a week classes but took up a great deal of my time since I was working FT.

Just an idea.

Meetup, hiking clubs, running clubs -- I know hiking, they don't just limit it to good weather. I used to do nighttime hiking with my boyfriend in the winter and loved it. Beautiful, clear nights, hot chocolate, and I wasn't sweating (too badly) because the air was crisp.

Hockey and basketball games are at night, too. Good places to mingle if you're single looking for a guy;-)

I am a crafter but had not been doing much crafting for the last couple of years.

I noticed if I keep my hands busy my brain doesn't always thing about munching.

For the past six months when my real hunger came back I had to do something. I started crocheting again! I crochet every day and I have made so much stuff in 6 months that I started selling it on eBay.

By the way, it doesn't sell well on eBay. LOL!

So, I figure I will get enough stuff made and do a craft show in the mall. I love doing it and it has definitely kept me busy.

If my neck and back would give me a break I would be back to sewing my quilts. I have an amazing embroidery sewing machine and I love love love quilting. That is what I would be doing and hope to be soon.

Try doing something with your hands!

Just one idea:

Do you have a local or community theatre? They always need volunteers.

I used to volunteer usher at a theatre and it was fun and a great way to meet people. I volunteered at at the Atlanta Fox so got to see some great shows (Broadway, Opera, Concerts, etc.)

Now, that I live in a more rural community, we don't get as many touring shows, but there are still several community theatres in the surrounding area. I have only been as a paying guest but may consider volunteering as I get more energy.

Of course, if you are more brave than I am you could audition for a play!

I'm not into theaters. A former colleague has been trying to get me into it for the past decade.

I would love to start making and selling my pieces again. Had a very lucrative business going at an old job selling my craft on the side.

Someone mentioned hiking clubs. Check out The Sierra Club. They tend to have lots of outings, hikes, etc.

Definitely will look into hiking locally. I do daytime small 5-6 mile easy trails every so often with my sis. Never considered night time hikes.

My friends are awesome and very supportive. But with my new lifestyle I want to do more new healthy activities than hang out with partying friends every weekend.

I have never bowled in my life. Night time hiking sounds fun. Basketball games I would love to attend as the GSW are doing a phenomenal job!!

I am actually trying not to meet any one new in the man department.

I live in the DC area and there are tons of things to do on weekends. Some cities have websites that will inform as to what is happening on any given week or month.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
