Updates on December 2015 Surgeries

Recommended Posts

I had RNY bypass 12/29. My highest weight was 368, surgery day weight was 266, current weight is 252 at 17 days post-op. Surgery went well, was able to move around pretty well which helped with the gas pains. Had a drain which got infected and I have an abscess under where it was removed now but it's starting to feel better. I was on Clear Liquids for one day- full liquids for one week- puréed for 2, then can move to soft for 2. I'm sooo over the liquids and puréed already! I want food! Lol I feel hungry all the time! I'm doing everything I was told but just need food I think! I haven't had any sicknesses for any foods although I developed a cough after surgery which hurt really bad and was told to take cough Syrup which made me have a little dumping in pretty sure because I started sweating, felt like I was gonna puke, etc. They didn't tell me sugar free syrup and I totally had a brain fart!! I also got VERY sick after the barium swallow but no foods have made me sick! Can drink the Protein Shakes just fine, etc. I just want regular food or at least scrambled eggs! Haha I've had difficulties planning meals while out! Just gotta remember to bring a shake with me.

What is RNY?

You will see that around here as the shorthand for Gastric Bypass. It stands for the procedure Roux-en-Y.

I am aiming more towards the sleeve but I think my insurance does not cover the sleeve at all so I may have to go with the bypass. I have several family members who have had the bypass. Other than the procedure, is there a difference in what your able to eat in the beginning to heal?

Hello! I had my band to bypass revision 12/22. The first week and a half were hell and I seriously thought I made a mistake and cried a lot. I'm four weeks out and feeling a million times better. Still slightly tender on my left side incision and think I have finally shaken my stall. I'm down 23 lbs!!!

Had a gastric bypass revision on Tuesday 1/12/16 and came home on Thursday night. Am on clear liquids until I see the surgeon on Wednesday. Pain is tolerable using Tylenol 1000 mg every 6 hrs. Have headaches from the anesthesia still.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
