10 days post-op - very weak

Recommended Posts

Hey all...

I am 10 days post-op and while my surgery recovery was easy, adjusting to my new life has been far from it. My first day home I felt great, got all my walking in, felt optimistic and wasn't in much pain. Didn't do so great on fluids on day 2-7 at all and never could hit my protein/water goals, everything made my new tummy hurt BAD. Because of this I have been super weak, light-headed, dizzy, and can barely walk to the next room without getting a head rush and feeling like I'm going to pass out. The nurse at my surgeons office said if I got all my Water and Protein in I would feel better...but I don't. I've hit my Water and Protein goals the past 3 days (finally found protein I can stomach) but I still feel awful. I can't even shower without laying down after and drinking cold water cause it exhausts me so much. I get dressed and I'm panting like I ran a marathon. I know this isn't normal and I am completely miserable. I am really frustrated and wondering why I ever thought this was a good idea.

completely normal, I went through the same thing. Think about it, 10 days out your body is still healing, and you are not consuming a lot of calories so of course you're going to feel weak. After a few weeks and once you can eat something more substantial you will feel better

Yeah I had same issue. Just try and take it easy. I promise it gets better. Really work on meeting fluid goals. I even stayed up late trying to reach mine. You don't want to let yourself get to dehydrated. Your blood pressure could be low as well. When getting up do so slowly.

My doc is NOT happy that I'm not hitting my walking goals, and I really do try, but it's like a catch-22. I've resorted to trying laps inside the house but even that is pushing it when I can barely make it from one end of the room to the other without being lightheaded. Honestly? This has been the longest 10 days of my life. I'm just SO ready to feel normal again.

I totally felt like a noodle until I started regular foods at one month. The only time I passed out from weakness was six months out and I was sick with the flu.

I was so so weak until about 2.5 weeks out. I would nap for an hour or two in the day, and that was me trying tasty awake.

I started work at 2 weeks out, which I think helped me snap myself out of it, and concentrated a lot on Protein intake.

TBH, I didn't really walk that much. I would pace a little for the gas pain but otherwise I was too tired. I would go to the shops to do the grocery shopping, or walk around a big centre. But worked helped with the walking too.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
