If you really want rice, eat it. Perhaps it will work for you, maybe it won't.

I got over my love of rice the third time it made me yack, but you may tolerate it just fine. Personally, I had this surgery to lose weight, not to eat all the foods that made me fat in the first place.

:)

Neither cauliflower nor quinoa are going to be the same. Same is not the point. They are healthier substitutions that you can season similarly. The problem with the "in moderation" theory is that people use that as an excuse to eat the bad foods anyway. Every day someone post on this board that they aren't losing and they say they only ate a certain thing "here and there". Truth is processed white rice is a carb and it's simply not a sleevers friend. I have eaten brown rice twice and black rice once since being sleeved. Black rice does offer some Protein, but it doesn't taste anything like white rice. I am one of those who can tolerate everything. I have yet to eat a food that made me sick. It means I have to decide every day not to eat certain things because I don't get the negative message throwing up from it.

I would rethink the rice situation because it sounds like it's will be a slippery slope for you.

It's understandable that you miss rice, but you should really consider trying not to focus on it. One of the critical parts of being sleeved is to relearn how to eat and make that emotional shift away from food. I miss Diet Coke and Pasta, but those were two things that got me needing surgery. Substitutions are not exact replacements just like spaghetti squash doesn't taste like real spaghetti noodles. You have to figure out what works for you.

Start researching new recipes! Get your Julia Child on and start experimenting with new foods and find out what you like.

I am in mourning now. Not only can I probably not eat certain foods, as in I shouldnt, but, I don't want to. It's kinda scary bcuz I did have an appetite after surgery and now that I can eat, blaaaaah. I had a moment when I ate a quarter pc of flounder, 2-3 fork fulls of mashed potatoes & I was so full I felt disgusted. Flounder was 3 inches at best

Why are people eating mashed potatoes?

That was on the list I received of "These foods have little nutritional value, but a lot of carbs and calories."

I was told to eat boxed mashed potatoes with Protein powder and FF gravy as a purée. They were my first food after liquids per my NUT actually. Once I could eat more than a few tablespoons, however, she advised against.

At this stage, your body is going through a serious change. I also experienced a lot of intense emotion and I believe it was a physical thing. You are at the hardest part. Go easy on yourself. Try to get a lot of rest. I promise it will be much better soon. Just try not to stress. It will get easier.

Yes. Mourn it. It's not wrong or right, its just how you feel today. I don't know what normal is yet, but I am curious. I'll have many fears, as do so many others seeking comfort on this board. This is the horizon time. How wonderful it is that you are on the rim of a whole new world.

i hear you. i'm puerto rican and same on the rice thing. but i tell you what. i'm 9 weeks out and i really don't eat dry starches at all. rice, bread, etc. it doesn't go down right. eventually you just stop trying to eat it. you kinda lose a taste for it cuz it makes you sick.

I am 5 months out and have finally feel like i have "divorced" rice, Pasta and breads. These are foods I used to crave, but these made me feel sick and eventually I just stopped eating them and I don't crave them. It takes time. Hang in there and focus on the foods you like and can eat, Beans, veggies, chicken. I do believe it is a process and you need to give your mind and body time to heal from the way you used to eat.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
