Anyone here have Medicaid as insurance?

Recommended Posts

I have Medicaid as insurance and from my understanding Medicaid does cover bariatric surgery and of course have guidelines. Have to have a BMI OF 40 or greater or 35 or higher with co-morbidities. Also, approval from your pcp. I know all this info but I'm just afraid of going through the process. I am right at 40BMI. If I lost any weight I would fall u dear the BMI, by one pound???? I don't have hypertension, diabetes, or sleep apnea (that I know of). Last year I did see a nutritionist but did not have follow ups.

Has anyone went through the process with Medicaid???? What's it like??? I would appreciate any info.

My friend did it two weeks ago. She didnt have any co-morbidities and she was right at a BMI of 40. Once approved she lost some weight and she still got the surgery done. She's looking great!

My insurance has the same requirements, in addition to 6 months of supervised weight loss. I was at a BMI of 40 so I spent 6 months maintaining! Everyone involved gets it though, my NUT, PCP, and surgeon all thought the 6 months was unnecessary for most people but knew it had to be met, so they were supportive of me while I maintained until I got approval.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
