If I lose now it's because eating is a horrible process! This expander is the stupidest thing I've done. I wish I would have done it before surgery. I HATE eating right now. It takes forever and I get disgusted with the whole process before I can get full. What's worse is I'm hungry at times but the thought of going through the process of eating with this thing in my mouth is too taxing. An expander is bad enough but I have a "special" case because my upper palate is so narrow my expander had to be custom made lower in my mouth which restricts my tongue even more than normal. It's just plain SUCKS! $8,000 dollars worth of SUCKS!! My mouth better be move star perfect when this crap is over!

Here I took a picture so you guys can see what the problem is. You can't tell from the outside so I have to open my big mouth to show people that it is indeed screwy. You just have no idea how much you use the top of your mouth until it's restricted.

You're all welcome for that picture lol! Now, see why I need it fixed?! And I'm a adult so that makes everything harder since my bones should be fused already. We have to slowly break it all back open.

@@wannaBthinsoon Its not painful per say right now it's just annoying! It's hard to even drink my Protein Drink. They say it's all going to be worth it...."they" better be right! I can't pronounce my U's or T's either which is comical for my daughter. I swear she almost pissed herself laughing at me.

@@Elode, sorry if you've already answered this question but how long do you have to wear the expander?

Look at the bright side you don't have to worry about over eating on Christmas :-/ (trying to help)

Hey there. As you know I've also struggled with maintainece. I started to trip out a bit when I got under 120 (I'm 5'6) and I got a lot of comments about how thin I am ect, yet I was still losing. Part of me liked that and part of me was like "whoa nelly!"

Well, it does seem to have stopped. It slowed to a crawl and now I stay between 117-119. If I eat bad I'm up and if I eat well I'm down.

I do think our bodies, if we are following our weight loss plan, will reach a set point. I know it's a crazy thought after being overweight but your body may be meant to be quite thin and that's where it wants to be. I've had to adjust to being a very thin woman and I've had to deal with a lot of flack over it from family but the truth is, my body stopped here and I'm not about to force it to gain weight! That would be nuts. Plus I do really like the way I feel and look at this weight. So they can bugger off. Everyone has to have an annoying opinion.

This whole ride is crazy and it takes some nerves to make this change. But I wouldn't worry about losing too much. Your body will eventually reach the right weight for itself. Just keep doing what your doing. Very few people actually go to underweight and even the ones that do seem to eventually bounce back.

And your mouth issues are probably part of it too. I'm sure things will level out once you feel more comfortable eating.

@@bellabloom Well I hope so girl. Of course I wanted to lose weight. That was the whole point but I've always liked having curves. Even when I was fat I always said I'm rather be fat then flat. I'm not here yet but I've lost as much curves as I'd like too. Unfortunately we don't get to draw a picture of the body we want and hand it to the brain. I'm ok right now. I can eat Mac-n-cheese easily but who wants to live on that? It's not much Protein so I work on my shakes.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
