Hey all of you wonderful December sleevers! I was sleeved on Monday and I'm running into some issues with Water. I'm thirsty for it, I want it, but every time I drink it hurts and causes gas pains. I haven't had this issue with other liquids. I'm slow sipping but always seem to get air. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I was sleeved on Weds, came home last night. I've managed 16oz of Water today, just by keeping an insulated cup by me and taking a small sip at a time. It's not much, but it's a start. I did put a dash of Water flavouring in, one of the Mio type ones, this one is green tea flavored.

Have you tried a Water Enhancer?

I've heard other experience this problem. I think it may be the minerals in Water. You could try diluted Gatorade or even diluting down apple juice..

I am struggling with Water. Water sips while hospitalized caused vomiting almost every time. It was awful. Goal is 64 ounces; today I managed 32 plus a sugar free Popsicle. Water causes the same issues for me as well. I feel like no matter how small my sips are, they sit in my chest and cause pressure.

I dealt with this too but hopefully it will go away for you like it did for me. As soon as more swelling and pressure goes down in your stomach it will be better. I can drink 4 oz at a time now and it's SO much better.

(sometimes there's still gurgling from drinking, but not the awful air pressure!)

Good luck!

Hi All,

I was sleeved Tuesday & I am also having that trouble with Water. I am drinking Isopure. It counts as water because it's clear but the benefit is that it has 40 gms of Protein. I also asked the doctor if I could take a probiotic & he said yes. So I am drinking 1 a day. They are found at costco in the refrigeration dept. After I started taking the probiotic & sips of warm water and turning my torso I was able to move the gas out. I think that the gas pain was worse than the surgery pain. I am feeling much better today.

I'm happy to know it wasn't just me, I'm a couple weeks out now and doing so much better with water! No pain, just struggling getting it all in throughout the day.

Pretty normal when you swallow any liquid. It will pass in a couple weeks. Stay hydrated.

I couldn't tolerate plain Water - even two years out, I still don't like plain Water. Vitamin Water Zero and Propel (both 0 calories) worked well for me. Might be worth a try.

I had to experiment with lots of different flavors added to my Water and different temperatures. I finally settled on very cold peach flavored propel as my drink of choice. Plain water gave me pain and nausea.

I just started being able to tolerate plain water at a year and half post op.

Hang in there and keep trying until you find what works for you.

Congrats on your surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
