I am off to be banded today! I am happy that it is here and scared at the same time. I have such high expectations of myself and hope that all will turn out great!

I only lost 8 lbs on the Optifast and was very good to stick to it.

Everyone has been so supportive and I thank everyone for that. Wish me well and will hopefully be able to post in the next couple of days.

Here we go on the ride of a lifetime!:clap2:

You go girl! I hope all goes well. An online friend of mine is going to be banded today, too. Her surgery is about 40 minutes from now. I am praying to her and you, too! Best of luck to you! Let us know how you are doing! (I have 3 weeks before my banding!) Take Care!

Here I am - everything went really well - now the gas and bloating has started! I am so please that I really don't have much pain but am having a terrible time trying to sleep. I am really tired but sleep doesn't come my way. I only slept about 90 min last night and sure hopeing to do much better tonight. Of course I didn't think to ask for the Dr to leave me a sleeping pill so I just laid there and watched tv.

I am anxious for the next couple of days to pass.

Thanks all for the well wishes.

I am on my way!:clap2:

I don't feel bad at all but I got some sleep last night and that really helped. I had thin cream of rice this am and no problems. Now it is time to get rid of the gas but that isn't unbearable either. Just have to remember to rest, because I do feel good.

Thanks everyone for this site and for the encouragement!

SD i got banded yesterday and I too feel really good. I'm just sore especially when getting up from the recliner. I just keep ice over my shirt for the swelling. I had a little gas right after the surgery and I took a gas strip and it went away hopefully it will stay that way. It was kinda hard for me to sleep last night I slept better in the recliner. Take it easy and i will too.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
