So what am i missing?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery in January. I am pretty much to goal. I will have my consultation for skin removal in a few months. So here's the thing. Maybe this sounds strange, maybe not. I get dizzy. I understand that part of it. However, in addition to that, whenever I pick something up, my puppy and gallon of milk, anything that weighs anything, my legs feel funny and I get warm from the waist down. I get weak and have to sit. I am doing well with my Vitamins. I could probably use a bit more Protein but is there something else i should be adding to my diet? Has this happened to anyone else or am I just a freak. lol....Thanks much vets....appreciate it.

Get blood work and a check up. I have no idea what the issue is but that is no typical. Plastics are tough surgeries/ long recovery...get this sorted out first (in my opinion)

Hi Lucy!

Sorry you're dealing with that! Have you had recent labs, including sugar/glucose, potassium, zinc, and especially Iron? Also over the years I've learned that it's important who reads these labs post surgery. For me, my primary care wasn't really breaking down the chemistry so my levels were all off. I would have endocrinology or bariatric check these for you regularly if they aren't already:)

There is a condition called "reactive hypoglycemia" which is low blood sugar that occurs after a meal - usually within 4 hours after eating. Several individuals who underwent gastric bypass developed this condition even though they never had diabetes prior to surgery.

Signs and symptoms of reactive hypoglycemia may include hunger, weakness, shakiness, sleepiness, sweating, lightheadedness, anxiety and confusion.

All labs have been great and have been read by my barbaric surgeon. Will look into it more. Will research additional Vitamins and ask about the reactive hypoglycemia. Thanks for the input.

I'd suggest ruling out MS.

How's your blood pressure? If it's low (which can result from weight loss, dehydration, low sodium intake, etc) you can feel dizzy when standing or changing positions. Search postural hypotension.

It sounds like Hypotension.

Or more specifically orthostatic hypotension.

It happens when you sit to stand or bend over to stand etc.

Your blood pressure drops. And all of the symptoms you mentioned are exactly what happens when your BP drops.

The only thing you can really do for that is move slower.... sounds lame I know but really that's about it.

And make sure that your sodium isn't low. (Can check that by getting bloodwork)

If it is, you'll have to eat more salt!!!! Did you ever think that you'll be told to eat MORE salt?! Haha

Good luck in finding your answers.

:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
