Cheeselife 68 Posted December 10, 2015 Just got home, after 3 days of Water then nil-by-mouth I have a terrible headache and I'm so tired. I tried to make 4 oz of Protein Shake, I'd added the heartburn and nausea meds, plus my liquid painkillers. Thought I could sip it over a few hours but I've only had an ounce in an hour and a half, sipped slowly. Think I'll need to chuck it and go to bed! Need to wait another couple of hours for my children to go to bed first.
Mbain 29 Posted December 11, 2015 Hope it all passes soon. I was feeling terrible the first days out but it was mainly due to tiredness and gas pain, nothing like you are describing; call your doctor if you are in doubt. Do you have anybody that can help you? I feel so bad for you and I really hope it all gets better soon.
Chelle Bean 51 Posted December 11, 2015 wonder if the headache is maybe due to lack of fluids. Hope you feel better soon.
Yaberhoo 358 Posted December 11, 2015 Instead of the Protein shake, why not just try apple juice or Water? Hydration is your priority the first week, not the Protein. Water needs to follow a sugar or a salt into the body to be absorbed so that is why I recommend the apple juice. Your body is in shock, sweetie. I was still in the hospital for two nights and in a hotel recovery floor for another two before released to go home. NO WAY could I have swallowed a Protein Shake. I barely could take three spoonfuls of broth. I drank water and juice to give me some calories and keep my sugar levels up.
Cheeselife 68 Posted December 11, 2015 Thank you. Feeling a little better this morning, think I was rushing things! Had my liquid pain meds and anti nausea meds, sipping plain Water very slowly. I was up in the night to pee every couple of hours, so I'm hoping that's a good sign that I'm hydrated. Going to stick to clear fluids today, though my surgeon said I was okay to try full liquids last night, I think my new stomach had other ideas! Still feel full, my incisions feel tight, and my whole belly feels more like waves of extreme discomfort are washing over it, rather than actual pain. Difficult to get comfortable. Going to walk around the house a bit today, that seems to help. I was determined not to feel the regret that everyone talks about, I was so sure, but I'm definitely feeling less sure today!! hope12-8 2 Posted December 11, 2015 Hi Trillian, what day was your surgery? Mine was 12-8, 4 days post op. Not sure I was prepared for the mental downfall. Physically I feel pretty good but just not sure how to snap out of the funk.
BobbyD 211 Posted December 11, 2015 My first day home after surgery (I was in the hospital one night) I thought "What have I DONE?". I had nausea, was hurting in my stomach, and could NOT get comfortable however I postioned myself. When people asked how I was doing, I would tell them not to use surgery as an option. Now, 3 weeks out, I am singing a different tune. My body has adjusted, I only have minimal stomach irritation from the sleeve, and I am losing weight systematically. So I transformed from one day out thinking I made a big mistake, to three weeks out knowing that I made the best decision of my life.
Cheeselife 68 Posted December 11, 2015 That's reassuring, Bobby! Hope, my surgery was on the 9th, I'm only on the second day. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
Cheeselife 68 Posted December 12, 2015 Walking is helping me a lot today, I think I just need to be more patient! Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
Tbeek 21 Posted December 12, 2015 Hi. My heart goes out to you because the first 3 to 4 days is the roughest. Walking will help with the gas in your system. Walk walk walk as much as your body will allow. What helped me was I would start with my meds for nausea, pain, and acid. Take the nausea and pain med on time and don't let it lapse so that you are on top of it. Then there is an other medicine that coats your stomach called carafate that was helpful for me. There is also a clear Protein that is not too bad called Isopure. My dr instructed me to to take it slow no more the 1 oz at a time and shift between a little Protein and a little Water. protein and Water will be you your biggest friend in the future. The nausia pills, dehydration, and keytosis can cause headaches so glad you are starting to feel better! Good luck
Yaberhoo 358 Posted December 12, 2015 I slept in a recliner the first week home because laying down on my bed was not an option. That was the only time I was uncomfortable. It sounds like you have gas to work out and walking is the best solution.

Cheeselife 68 Posted December 13, 2015 I hope you're feeling better, Trillian! So much better, thank you! Slept pretty well last night, just back from walking a couple of miles in the unseasonal warmth! Still figuring out the nutrition side, but feeling a lot more normal, which I'm glad of at only day 4! JCP 619 Posted December 14, 2015 Perfectly normal, normal, normal. Rest, sleep, take pain meds. Sip as you can and don't be hard on yourself. Try not to stress. Just do what you can and don't worry.
