Are you COLDER after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Yes! I live in Florida yet still cold all the time lol. Very typical of having lost lots of weight. I just always have a sweater in the car because you never know when you'll need it ☺

I am 5 months post op and feel cold constantly! I used to always be hot! I have a small blanket I keep on the couch and I have to be wrapped up. I have a space heater at work. My hubby bought me thick socks for Christmas because my toes seem to always be cold. My hands stay cold too. STAY WARM. :)

I use to be a seriously hot, sweaty, "it can't be cold enough" male. Totally the opposite of my wife who rarely sweated and needed a warm blanket throughout the year. Five months beyond surgery and it's a total role reversal. I love cold weather, but I definitely get cold these days and layer up way more than I ever did. Have a minimum of two blankets on the bed and my wife complains I keep it too warm in the house. Great not being a total sweat monster anymore.

I am 2 1/2 months out and I get so cold it's unreal. I have always been the person to walk out in the snow without shoes on or a jacket or long pants for that matter, and now I spend my nights under an electric blanket with socks on and slippers and a big full length sweater...I keep mittens stashed in my chair and my desk drawer, and everywhere else. I even wear sock hats around the house. I used to laugh at people who wore sock hats. How could anyone possibly have a head THAT cold...well, now I do! lol the fact my hair is thinning out probably helps too. I have gone from super bushy hair to very fine limp stringy hair. It's weird for me.

I definitely feel much colder post-op. I managed to still wear shorts until the temperature got down to 20 degrees (with a jacket), but indoors I've frequently had to put on a jacket to stay warm as far as October and especially now. Drives me nuts since I've never had this "problem" before.

It was explained to me like this by my surgeon:

1.) It's partially hormonal, hormones are stored in fat, lose fat and hormones run rampant. This is also a reason for periods running abnormal. You're body is at odds with itself.

2.) After surgery your body is focusing on your core, trying to repair and figure out how to function, therefore your arms, legs and feet suffer as a result. It's an ongoing issue/process as you continue to drop weight, so it may well last until you stabilize.

I can verify that I was cold constantly, even in the summer for the first year. I'm 2 years out and it's pretty much back to normal. Hang in there.

I thought it was just me. The girls at work hated working with me. They would wear sweaters in the middle of summer. My famous saying was "you can put clothes on. I can't take mine off" They will love me when I go back. My fiance thinks it's awesome because now he can snuggle with me. Kinda hope the hotness doesn't come back.

I used to be a "set the AC to 63" and a pretty reliable bed warmer. Post surgery I'm always complaining the heat isn't high enough and I tend to melt my wife out of the passengers side in car rides (I'll have he heat up and she will crack a window).

Cold never seemed to bother me before and now in far more sensitive to it. Hands and feet are quick to become ice sickles.

I used to run hot. Now I run cold. I wear socks to bed, I wear layers under my clothes. I have a space-heater under my desk at work.

Sure don't miss in insulation though!!

Heck yes! I had to put a space heater in my office lol

Me too! Went from the girl who always had the fan on to always having the heater on!

So true I'm always cold. Never was before in fact I used to be the one in the house always turning the AC in the 50's and 60's. Now I'm always freezing and sleep with a heating pad. I also have low Iron so that may have something to do with it. At my last lab appointment I was borderline anemic and my surgeon advised additional supplements

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
