MrsSantiago 27 Posted December 10, 2015 I'm a few weeks away from surgery and only support i have is bariatric pal and my husband. My dad is questioning why I'm going through with this surgery he says i have the will power to lose on my own. I've been yoyo dieting for years and continued to fail i need help I've tried everything and surgery is the only way i can find help. Nobody understands my struggle but those who are going through it. Sigh....venting
Miss Mac 6,262 Posted December 10, 2015 Well, your dad is wrong, isn't he? This is one of those times that the less you mention it, the better. Once you have your surgery, no one can un-do for you. They can only watch as you get healthy and happy. Thank goodness that you are a grown woman in charge of her own healthcare. Give hubby a hug. A supportive companion makes this process so much more bearable.
BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted December 11, 2015 It sucks when family members don't support us. Often it's done out of fear but the pain is there nevertheless. The best you can do is rely on forum like this for your bariatric support and focus on the other parts of your relationship with family and friends. Do you homework and make sure things are in place for your post-op life. You can do this!

My hubby is always asking how I am feeling and whether or not I was able to get in enough Protein, fluids, etc. It is great to have that one person. But is also great to be able to come here, with people who have or will soon experience this amazing lifestyle change and be able to sympathize, understand, and provide encouragement and support for the process. I myself did not tell anyone but my husband and best friend. Even after my procedure I only told one additional person. Some people just don't understand. VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted December 11, 2015 The support of your husband is likely much more valuable to you than your dad's support. My hubby is my greatest supporter. That makes both of us fortunate women.
