Getting very little support

Recommended Posts

I'm a few weeks away from surgery and only support i have is bariatric pal and my husband. My dad is questioning why I'm going through with this surgery he says i have the will power to lose on my own. I've been yoyo dieting for years and continued to fail i need help I've tried everything and surgery is the only way i can find help. Nobody understands my struggle but those who are going through it.

Sigh....venting

Well, your dad is wrong, isn't he? This is one of those times that the less you mention it, the better. Once you have your surgery, no one can un-do for you. They can only watch as you get healthy and happy. Thank goodness that you are a grown woman in charge of her own healthcare. Give hubby a hug. A supportive companion makes this process so much more bearable.

It sucks when family members don't support us. Often it's done out of fear but the pain is there nevertheless. The best you can do is rely on forum like this for your bariatric support and focus on the other parts of your relationship with family and friends. Do you homework and make sure things are in place for your post-op life. You can do this!

MrsSantiago, you are not alone. It is great that your hubby is supportive. My hubby is always asking how I am feeling and whether or not I was able to get in enough Protein, fluids, etc. It is great to have that one person. But is also great to be able to come here, with people who have or will soon experience this amazing lifestyle change and be able to sympathize, understand, and provide encouragement and support for the process. I myself did not tell anyone but my husband and best friend. Even after my procedure I only told one additional person. Some people just don't understand.

The support of your husband is likely much more valuable to you than your dad's support. My hubby is my greatest supporter. That makes both of us fortunate women. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
