Gall bladder?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon didn't take it out during WLS but I went back in a few months later. They had found stones but it wasn't a real issue but my surgeon did say I could have issues later on especially when I decide to have children. Since I met my maximum out of pocket and the gallbladder removal wouldn't cost I think I told her to remove it. I had WLS in May and I had my gallbladder removed in September.

that is why mine is scheduled for Tuesday, I have met me maximum out of pocket:)

My doctor chose not to as well. He said if I had problems in the future, he will remove it. I'm scared as my sister had gastric bypass 3 years ago and she keeps having those painful attacks. She's waiting to give birth, then she'll have it removed.

My surgeon says that 7/10 are fine with their gall bladder and will not remove during WLS. He also says removing gall bladder will put extra strain on body and extend recovery time. I heard that some people were prescribed a medication to prevent gall stones after surgery, but I did not get it from my surgeon.

I had my surgery at noon today. Not sick with this one like the sleeve. They gave me so much anti-nauseous meds and no morphine. I really think I got so sick last time from the morphine, so I kept telling them that and they just added it to my allergy list.

The pain is a lot like the sleeve, just sore when getting up from laying down and sitting down getting up. I go back in a week and hopefully he releases me to go back to the gym. I am really looking forward to working out for longer than 20 -30 mins without pain. I will update if anything changes or in a week when I go back for my check up.

BTW-I had one very large manderian orange sized stone with lots of little ones, so my gallbladder was larger than normal. I had my sleeve preformed on June 15, 2015 and am down 80 lbs.

That's a big stone! I bet you are glad to be rid of that.

I'm recovering from gall bladder surgery. My doc didn't remove it as I never had issues before surgery. I had an attack that had me in hospital for 3 days. Never again!! I just had it removed Thursday. Recovering nicely, surgery is no where as painful for me as the sleeve was. Good riddance I say!

I think that I am having the same issues. How did you all figure out that is what it was? I have an appointment with my primary care physician next week and assuming that he can write me a referral to go get it checked. Just wondering how you all got tested and confirmed that's what it was for you?

The pain is the WORST thing I could imagine, so while I am not excited at the thought of another surgery, I definitely want to get rid of this pain!

You get an ultra sound of your abdominal area and they can see the stones. Not to bad unless they push really hard and then it's a little tender. Hang in there!!! It is a breeze compared to the sleeve surgery:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
